OHIO DUers!!!! WE MUST STOP BLACKWELL!!!
We cannot allow that mofo to discount voter registration based on the paper type! We need to attack this as soon as possible! Now what are we going to do? We must start by flooding the newspapers with letters. Any other ideas?

19. Blackwell
I sent Blackwell an email (has not bounced back yet), sent Carville an email. Also Tom Hartman is talking about it this morning on the radio and he is giving out the phone number to the Sec. of State for people to call.

6. Yes, you missed it:
apparently, Blackwell had ordered not to accept voter registration forms if they are not heavy enough. It ain't' a joke, unfortunately.

7. This deserves TV coverage and a release of names of disenfranchised
If we have the names and addresses, we can re-register them. Let's get Moveon to do commercials indicating that this is a Republican attempt to steal votes. It will make the Republicans look bad.

8. Federal Voting Rights Act
Found this at Atrios - http://atrios.blogspot.com/

Sec. 1971. - Voting rights

(a) Race, color, or previous condition not to affect right to vote; uniform standards for voting qualifications; errors or omissions from papers; literacy tests; agreements between Attorney General and State or local authorities; definitions

(1)

All citizens of the United States who are otherwise qualified by law to vote at any election by the people in any State, Territory, district, county, city, parish, township, school district, municipality, or other territorial subdivision, shall be entitled and allowed to vote at all such elections, without distinction of race, color, or previous condition of servitude; any constitution, law, custom, usage, or regulation of any State or Territory, or by or under its authority, to the contrary notwithstanding.

(2)

No person acting under color of law shall -

(A)

in determining whether any individual is qualified under State law or laws to vote in any election, apply any standard, practice, or procedure different from the standards, practices, or procedures applied under such law or laws to other individuals within the same county, parish, or similar political subdivision who have been found by State officials to be qualified to vote;

(B)

deny the right of any individual to vote in any election because of an error or omission on any record or paper relating to any application, registration, or other act requisite to voting, if such error or omission is not material in determining whether such individual is qualified under State law to vote in such election;

Contact Blackwell over this issue. Ask him why he's violating the Federal Voting Rights Act.

You are taking your families honor in your hands when you commit felony acts. Do you want them to see you in prison? Keep it up Blackwell, and they will.

11. If this were a Republican issue lawyers would be dropping from the top
of the State Buildings on ropes like Ninjas. In 2000 they were here in less than 2 hours to start litigation over a few people voting after 7pm because the lines in the city were so long. You probably remember that loud mouth Mark guy who was always on television with Mark Levin during the Clinton debacle, well he was in St. Louis, in a hurry. No time to sit on our hands this issue must be dispatched immediately. If there is anything I can do please let me know.

lawyers working on this issue. But there's no legal action to be taken on this right now because no Ohio county has yet invalidated any registration as a result of Blackwell's order. Any suit filed at this point would likely get thrown right out of court.

The lawyers have filed suit on another Blackwell directive that is a direct violation of federal law. But Blackwell's order about the paper registrations does not, in and of itself, violate any federal or state statute and is not actionable unless and until registrations are invalidated.

The best way to address this issue right now is to do what we're doing - bombard Blackwell with complaints, get the word out to the public, email, call and write local press demanding that they cover the story, and make as much noise as possible. This will all make it much less likely that the counties will toss out otherwise valid registrations simply because some of them are on the "wrong" paper.

Riot! DO NOT let them get away with this. This is in Columbus? If a riot can be planned on a weekend...I can drive to Columbus. I'll be there! These bastards have decided our election process can be manipulated to meet THEIR needs! NO FUCKING WAY! They need to know we Democrats are NOT going to take their shit ANYMORE!

Has John Kerry and his attorneys been notified about this? THIS is why he has the attorneys, right? They need to know.

These people are despicable!

28. The Citizens of Ohio should drag him out of his office and hold a trial in
the town square.

Almost our entire legal system is under the control of anti-American fascists, and they are not prosecuting criminals like Blackwell because he is one of them.

Shame on the state government in Ohio, and shame on John Ashcroft.

Traitors.

emailing contacts posted in other threads. Probably blasted about 200 recipients combined. Got about 12 automated responses and 5 personal ones. The election boards all assured me they were accepting ALL reg. forms.
