Sen Byrd to crowd: "the Constitution will never let the Bible be banned"!
In Beckley, W.Va., Sen. Robert C. Byrd, to shouts of "hallelujah" and "Amen!" from a packed audience, deplored Republican campaign strategists who have suggested that electing John Kerry would lead to an attempt to ban the Bible.

Byrd said a brochure sent by the Republican National Committee to the homes of many evangelical Christians in West Virginia and Arkansas is "trash (and) it's a lie."

"You're being fed a bunch of trash," he told an interfaith group convened to talk about how Kerry would keep traditional family values a focus of his administration. "The people who put this out (are) taking West Virginians to be gullible, ignorant fools."

Waving the copy of the U.S. Constitution he always carries, Byrd told the group "the Constitution will never let the Bible be banned."

You have to scroll down the page for a second article. AP must not think Dem responses are as important as HEINOUS repub attacks.

"The people who put this out (are) taking West Virginians to be gullible, ignorant fools."

5. Oh goodness, thanks for posting this
I was so hoping he would say something to W.Virginian's about those flyers and it appears they agree.

"The people who put this out (are) taking West Virginians to be gullible, ignorant fools."

Yes, they are. I'm sick to death of the disgusting treatment the RNC and bush dish out to my fellow Americans. It just can't end soon enough.

8. This will mean a LOT! W.Va folks think a lot of Bob Byrd.
He is probably the ONLY person who could put this idiotic shit to bed, and demonstrate it for what it really is! I hope they realize how disgusting this action was, and even those who might have thought of voting for shrub won't now!

10. I really hope Kerry wins this state
It's gonna be tough, but it's still quite close. I believe Kerry has a chance there. I'm also glad to hear that Byrd urged people to vote for Kerry.

Robert Byrd is a very interesting person. I'm glad he's speaking out against such nonsense. I found his interviews on NPR great as well a few weeks ago.
