Can we have a moratorium on posts of emails from repukes?
I know, I know, hit the ignore post button....but how about considering whether we really need to muddy up our board with their garbage? We don't let them post their garbage here, why should we do their work for them? If we so desperately want to see what they are saying, we can always go visit freepville. (ewwww)

If this was occasional or rare it wouldn't bother me so, but there are always several of these every day, and the repuke message is always posted in its entirety.

How about taking a little time to think before posting their drivel here? Often the points in those postings have been debunked repeatedly. Do a bit of research on your own. Search the boards. Check Snopes. Think before hitting the send button. As I always, ALWAYS do of course.

1. True.
I think we should exercise some self-control and restrict GOP e-mail trash to specific instances of "how should I respond to this" and specific snippets only.

2. Gawd yes! I second the motion.
You're supposed to take the trash out...not bring it in.

3. No!
I've sent to many correcting emails that nobody sends me that stuff anymore. If I don't get it here, I don't get to see much of it, except the ones my wife gets.

And I think most of her professional colleauges try to avoid sending them to her (except for this one asshole) because they know she is a Democrat.

4. Some people post 'em
so that we can help refute them.

5. Please, if we took those away, along with the "Tweety is being a whore!"
...posts or some such variation on the "i'm going to listen to/watch a republican schill and then complain about it on the internet" shtick, then what the hell would people post about? Content? Pssshaw!

6. I can understand your concern, but sometimes I can see the benefit
of having it posted here.

First off, sometimes when a person gets some crazy email, they are overwhelmed and might not have anywhere else to turn to, or are unfamiliar with Snopes or using the search function or whatever. It's a warm fuzzy too see likeminded folks with some answers.

Second, it might help a few other people to see the email get debunked since they might have received it from THEIR bonehead brother/sister.

Third, I like to see them because it shows the full force of DU come to the rescue.

8. As I said, I wouldn't mind if it was occasional, and
as another poster suggested snippets of content that the poster has questions about. But usually we see at least several per day, often points that are covered repeatedly, and some people seem to receive constant repuke emails that they need to have debunked over and over again.

9. No doubt some of them are intended to stir the DU pot
And on those I use the "alert" button and tell the Mods my concerns.

But frankly my beliefs are strong enough that they won't be swayed by some pissant RWer "innocently" posting some RW trash they got. If anything, it gives me a chance to blow Texas-sized holes in their arguments.

10. We used to have a rule on posting repuke content without
posting ones own thoughts about the content. Whatever happened to that?

11. If I see one....
...I might look thru it. Most of the time I don't click on it. I think that if people want to post it and maybe ask for help, there is nothing wrong with that.
Of course, I see a lot of posts here saying that other types of threads should not be started. If all the threads that were requested were to actually be stopped, we would only have one area of the forums and not many posts.
I do understand where you are coming from though. A lot of times I think that some troll is posting that stuff with the intentions of getting their "point" across. But I will give most people the benefit of doubt and hope they are truly hoping to get the answers from the more knowledgeable people here at DU.

12. Please notice that I am not asking for a ban, but for self-editing,
and that I and others have suggested methods to limit the frequency of these posts. Research here and elsewhere being first. Snippets as opposed to post of the entire repuke message. Adding ones own thoughts in reaction to the received email rather than just "here's what I was sent" and then just the text in it's entirety with NO commentary.

13. I'm sorry
It's still early. I reread the original post. I see what you mean, instead of just cutting and pasting the email, to maybe give some of their own thoughts and maybe specific questions.

14. No problem
Moratorium might not have been exactly the right word, but I couldn't think of another to convey what I wanted to say.

15.  A short summary/description will suffice.
DU has many thousands of readers, including high school agers, who are still making up their minds, and/or who may believe or be influenced by the lies and smears in these republican generated messages.

It requires minimal effort for someone who truly needs help in responding, to summarize a post. Simply say, I got an email attacking Kerry's military record in Vietnam, or I got an email attacking the Heinz family foundations & Teresa Heinz Kerry.
Where can I get the facts about these?

16. I understand your point, but
Snopes.com doesn't always have the information you need, nor does googling the info.

Yesterday, my 13yrold niece was at my house and checked her e-mail on my computer. She had received an e-mail from an out-of-state friend that disparaged John Kerry. My niece started to tell the friend to please not send her anymore political e-mails, but I was able to refute the e-mail because of having read about it before on DU.

So, DU helped smack down the little Republican instead of wimpily saying, "Please don't send me...blah, sigh, whimper." I helped my niece stand up for herself and her beliefs.

I haven't posted for long, but I've read this board for quite some time. DU is a one-stop shop for Democratic political tools and information. I don't read every single thread -- some don't interest me. But I realize that others might be interested. And there are always new people coming to the board that are playing catch-up and information that may be old news to us isn't old to them.

Just another viewpoint even if I've not posted here long enough to earn the right to express it. :)

17. Uh-oh, I'm Guilty, But Not Often, and Not the Mass-mailing Types
I'm assuming the types being objected to are the spam that spreads outrageous lies about Dems.

I have two wingnut harassers (that I also harass), a Vietnam vet and a local radio talkshow host, and I *have* posted mostly THEIR own personal comments, either with my responses and/or requesting input on smacking them down, usually not the spam variety.

Otoh, I don't see the volume of the type being referenced. What I see MUCH more of and find more objectionable are wingnut talking points, especially in headlines, negative/detrimental things about JK or other Dems being spouted. Sometimes, when you click-in to these, the posted message is opposite, the headline being a come-on, but it gives the creepy feeling of being "had", besides giving a bad impression to those who just scan the headlines.
