The communists in the 60's used the "capitalist press" slogan to keep people from thinking about the news.

For the last ten years, the rethugs have beat "the liberal media" into the head of every american.

What's our slogan gonna be?

1. "It's still the capitalist press."
Works for me.

I think the "communists" in the 60's were pointing out the same problems we have today, only worse monopolism, rather than "keeping people from thinking about the news".

The idea was to make people ACTUALLY THINK about the news.

2. don't worry about a Leftist slogan yet; get a Leftist propaganda machine
You are like someone who wants to buy a flashy license plate holder but who does not even yet have a car.

You are right on with what has been happening to America. THe Right (the super rich and the big corps) have built a huge propaganda machine with hundreds of writers, talking heads, and media outlets in their pay or owned by them outright. They probably even pay to have people post on internet forums like DU. But at this point they really do not need to do that--there are hundreds of sharp well educated conformists, or ambitious rightwinger wannabes who are more than willing to tote their water for them. Some of these Net posters are either well-off themselves or plan to be.

This ideological move to the right is generally called Neoliberalism.
What is really scary is that this basic idea of neoliberalism (which is the foundation of the GOP) is ALSO favored by the elite of the Democratic party. Yes, the Dems in control of the party ALSO favor the same basic policies as the GOP. In fact that is the main reason why the Dems have lost power--they sold out their base. The Dems REALLY lucked out in getting a GOP candidate like Bush, and in getting the War on Terrorism. Otherwise, they would be out of power for the foreseeable future.

They have used this machine to build a worldview, a paradigm that favors the rich.

But if we want to change America, to move it back to the left, we have to have a voice. Right now the only voice we have is on the Net.

But most Americans are not that much into reading for information. THey like to watch TV and listen to radio.

So, talk radio is one possible avenue for the Leftist propaganda machine.

THere are 2 possible avenues for talk radio--one is Pacifica radio, which could be overtaken by leftist members. So far the entrenched power base there has fought off leftist control.

We also have Air America Radio. I have yet to hear them really push for anything other than Democratic party politics. When is to say supporting the neoliberal policies that are just a shade to the right of the GOP.

And there is Michael Moore, who right now is the only prominent Lefitst is America.

The only way to realistic way to build a machine is on the Internet. As broadband connections become more common, more people will be using them to listen to internet radio broadcasts and downloading and streaming video.

Video entertainment is the best way to get into a person's head with political memes. THat is why I am working with video editing software. You can get it free on Kazaa. I am learning Vegas Video right now!
