70. Excellent! Better a little late than never.
I felt sorry for the bearded and bespectacled seismologists when they tentatively declared the Parkfield Experiment a failure in early 2003.

The numbers always change after closer scrutiny. It's just a number and a natural process, but I for one hope it retains 6.0 status.

25. Prediction was for a 6.0 or higher
See http://quake.wr.usgs.gov/research/parkfield/

I hope they didn't pull out any of the instrumentation in despair after 2002 passed without a qualifying quake.

This could be a terrific day for data collection!

I'll mark mine a dupe. Yup, we felt it in Oaktown. A real good shaker. It was 6.0 in Parkfield. I hope everyone's okay. That's pretty rural.

I live in a horribly constructed post-war apartment building by Piedmont and didn't feel a thing!

and the floor moved enough for me to feel dizzy. Sideways motion. Lasted less than a minute here. I am on a third floor.

Didn't feel it, too far away. Suckers were big though, 5.9 and 5.0. Plus several aftershocks. Hope all are okay up there. The last time the area got hit two people died when the facade of a building fell on them.

71. YES! It's wonderful!
I was a science FREAK as a child and never got over it.

This will turn out to be one of the greatest days in the history of seismology.

I'm going to send a congratulatory email to every seismologist I know. (I know several prominent ones, having dated the daughter of a famous one in my youth.)

This earthquake was god's jolting announcement of the newest Air America Radio station KQKE (quake) 960 am that started broadcasting at noon in the San Francisco bay area. Who says god doesn't have a sense of humor?

73. In Case You Didn't Know- Helens Has Been Very Active Last Couple Days
Lots and lots of little quakes, so many that the instruments are having trouble keeping up.

They say there isn't the build up of magma, etc., like the big blow up.

The whole west coast is a fault line.

According to a radio show I was listening too the other day, the volcanoes in Washington State are not considered dormant.

I guess the last big activity on Rainier was 200 years ago. But in the geological scheme of things, that's not an "old" occurance.

A few years ago I was in an area hit by a smaller quake. I was up on a hill and did not feel it, so didn't understand what everyone was talking about. Everyone who was on the flat in the area felt it.

47. Near Santa Cruz
...in the inland mountains.

Yes, we felt it. About a minute of slow rolling shakes, slowly building up, and then tailing off pretty quicly. Also felt the first aftershock.

No biggie. Frankly, I'd rather risk the occasional quake than have to worry about hurricanes or blizards.
