If Bush "wins," how can he contend with the masses who...
...absolutely hate his guts? There are too many people who harbor a lot of anger over his first failed presidency.

3. What are the 'masses'
going to do? Why should he 'contend' any differently than he already has been? I'm not sure what you're saying, here???

4. The masses aren't doing
much about Bush right now. What makes you think it will be different in 2005?

6. I don't! That was my point,
he doesn't have to 'contend' with the disaffected masses because they aren't going to do a thing, if he wins.

5. He'll just pretend we don't exist.
I really don't think he has any concept of how many people absolutely despise him, not only as a President, but as a human being. He lives a very sheltered, controlled, and insulated life. Attendees at his speeches are made to sign "loyalty oaths", protestors who gather outside his speeches are kept in "free speech zones" so that Bush can't see or hear them, and at his rare press conferences he manages to avoid giving much thought to the occasional tough question. He admits to not reading the newspaper, saying that his aides will tell him what he needs to know.

So I really don't think Bush has any clue about how people really feel about him. This is an intentional effort made by his handlers. If he truly believes things are going really well for him and the country, then his demeanor will reflect that. And people like seeing their President appear strong in times like this, even though the truth is that he isn't actually "strong" so much as he's "fucking clueless".

US buys town for terror training

The United States Department of Homeland Security is buying an entire town in the south-west US for use in its anti-terror training.

Playas, in the state of New Mexico, will be bought for $5m from the Phelps Dodge mining company, which built it from scratch in the 1970s.

Anti-terror training my eye. More likely anti-Bush protestor training.
