Rednecks moving towards Kerry, no for real
BTW Black voters are NOT voting Bush, but I can tell you the names of quite a few pissed off rednecks that are voting Kerry.

The war and the lose of jobs and overtime is hitting Bush hard, I'm in MS and middle class repubs are mad at Bush.

3. We live near Huntsville, AL, in the north-central part of the state,...
...and my wife's family is from Lauderdale County, the far northwest county of Alabama. That portion of the state is filled with hard-working blue-collar rednecks, but my wife told me yesterday that Kerry-Edwards signs are all over the main roads in that county. I have to admit that I was just as shocked as she was, but that tells me quite a few people in the so-called Deep South aren't falling for FratBoy's act.

4. Rednecks hate rich people, that is the one flaw in the repubs Southern
Strategy. Keeping them poor and focused on black people could only work for so long.

MS might be in play and we are a paper ballot state, so we can count all our votes if there are any problems.

12. Giant Difference
In my mind, it is unconscionable for any rich person to be a conservative.

For those born of privilege, and for those who have used this country's many advantages to become independently wealthy, the idea that they would take a "bootstrap" mentality is unfathomable. It is rooted solely in selfishness and a narrow world view.

I can excuse it more in a middle class person than a child of privilege. (Hear that, Li'l Georgie?)

Well, the Repub knock on Kerry is that he's too liberal. Hmmm? That means that his public life is characterized by a need and desire to have the gov't help those who need the most help.

Therefore, his wealth has led him to trying to get government to help those in need. Bush's has led him to "let them eat cake".

The "rednecks" can see that profound difference and would lead them to see one rich person as an incredible jerk and the other someone worth voting for.

It's not as simple as your statement makes it. Unless of course, one is trapped in a black & white world.

20. I think a lot has to do with how the money is spent and who benefits
Kerry uses his money to benefit those who can't fend so well by themselves. Bush* uses your money to give to the wealthiest people on earth. I can see the difference but not sure the brainwashed can.

16. Remember, some rednecks ARE rich people.
And I'm also in Mississippi and believe me, a lot of rich people around here are rednecks (by my definition of the word).

18. Kerry's for class-based affirmative action
CBAA includes allowing working-class whites to benefit from AA, and that seems to attract the so-called redneck vote. CBAA neutralizes the AA argument that alleges discrimination against whites.

blue-collars are sent to India.

(Proud son of red neck lineage, so don't anyone get bent outta shape re: red neck comment - Actually Paw prefers Mountain Man to Hillbilly or Redneck)

6. Methinks it's about John Edwards being on the ticket with Kerry.
Edited on Tue Sep-28-04 01:24 PM by frankzappa
They look at Edwards as one of their own, in a perverse sort of way. (even though he went to college and then made big bucks as a lawyer - representing people like them). The fact that he is the son of a mill worker doesn't hurt.

Bush's 'hometown' paper endorses Kerry
01:01 PM CDT on Tuesday, September 28, 2004

Associated Press

CRAWFORD, Texas – A weekly newspaper that bills itself as President Bush's hometown paper endorsed John Kerry for president, saying the Massachusetts senator will restore American dignity.

The Lone Star Iconoclast, which has a circulation of 425, said in an editorial dated Sept. 29 that Texans should rate the candidates not by hometown or political party, but by where they intend to take the country.

(From iconoclast-texas.com)
"Four items trouble us the most about the Bush administration: his initiatives to disable the Social Security system, the deteriorating state of the American economy, a dangerous shift away from the basic freedoms established by our founding fathers, and his continuous mistakes regarding Iraq," the editorial said.

The Iconoclast, established in 2000, said it endorsed Bush that year. It also said it editorialized in support of the invasion of Iraq, and publisher W. Leon Smith promoted Bush and the invasion in a British Broadcasting Corp. interview, believing Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction.

"Instead we were duped into following yet another privileged agenda," the editorial said.

The newspaper praised Kerry for "30 years of experience looking out for the American people" and lauded his background as "a highly decorated Vietnam veteran."

Maybe the Dems should make Kerry/Edwards commercials with just Edwards doing the talking....

...or would that be too obvious?
