Financial Markets show no unusual activity (no October Surprise warning)
Edited on Tue Sep-28-04 01:30 PM by gandalf
Some People argue that something big – an October Surprise -- might be coming, like in this DU thread.

One indication is said to be unusual huge buys of financial put option contracts on the Chicago Board Options Exchange. For those interested in the latest development of the put-call ratio, I made an . At least in this regard, there is no warning, the put-call ratio exceeds the value of one (more puts than calls) only on rare occasions.

If you want to download the spreadsheets: http://www.cboe.com/data/datahouse/equityPC.csv

1. Very interesting.
Keep in mind though we are still 3 1/2 weeks from options expiration. So there could be a false move to the upside in the markets short term following our recent pullback the last few days. This false move then could result in cheaper puts being available which would then could be loaded up on for an October event in the 2nd/3rd week of October

3. Welcome to DU, newportdadde
As you can see in the graph, there is no longterm trend visible.

Naturally, you are right, we still have some time to expiration and to the elections.

2. A daily report would be very nice. With explanations.
Financial talk is so sexy, but not always easy to understand.

4. Do you have some specific questions
concerning the p/c ratio, or options in general?

A daily report would be easy, the CBOE provides the spreadsheets.
