2. Makes me sick... Exploiting tragedy in such a way.
Lewis Black had a great rant about this on the Daily Show a couple of weeks ago.

10. You're right and it was not received well by the audience.
That was too bad because his commentary about exploiting tragedies was on the mark.

He'll be in Pittsburgh on Friday night and I've got 2nd row seats at the Byham. It'll be good to get a good laugh.

5. I called the 800 number
to let them knoe how distasteful it is. No luck though, recorded voicemail type setup. Who is behind this ? The ad makes it sound like some official government release. Would our government sink this low ? I know they are pretty nasty, but this is just wrong.

8. I remember seeing an article a few weeks back...
...that the Treasury was warning about this coin (not official I guess?) - I'll see if I can find the link.

11. Here's the link:
http://www.swnebr.net/newspaper/cgi-bin/articles/articlearchiver.pl?156366

"The United States Mint is alerting consumers and the public about a new product whose television, print, and online advertisements incorrectly describe as a “legally authorized government issue” coin. This product, which purportedly commemorates the World Trade Center and the planned new Freedom Tower, is not a genuine United States coin or medal.

The National Collector’s Mint, a private commercial enterprise which is not connected to or affiliated with the United States Mint or the United States Government, is marketing this product as a Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands’ 2004“Freedom Tower” Silver Dollar. Consumers may find the advertisements for this product confusing because the company uses phrases such as “legally authorized government issue,” “U.S. territorial minting,” and “silver dollar.” The product itself also may be confusing because it bears the inscription, “In God We Trust,” which Congress requires on all United States coins, and the inscription, “One Dollar.”"

7. Numismatics Rejoice!
With the release of this coin, numismatics can now complete their "Terrible Events in History Coin Collection"!

The only thing left now is a tragedy of sufficient scale that the $50 gold piece can be minted.

I can hardly wait!

9. It is not a US coin.
It is minted as legal tender for The US Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
