Question: What year did the USA essentially become a one party nation?
I do not know this answer maybe someone can tell me.

Was it the Reagan years or did it happen before then?

The Republicans have control of both houses and many Democrats are nothing more than GOP Lights in Democratic clothing before they switch parties.

1. In 1919 with the creation of the FBI and the Palmer Raids

ever since then it has been strictly forbidden to challenge the "system" in any tangible way. If you start to become effective it is the job of the FBI to eliminate you, lest you challenge the status quo elite.

4. Does history repeat it's self
quote------
The public reaction to these raids was favorable, stirring up a storm of anti-communist sentiment.

At least we have no illusion that america cares about democracy or our rights as liberals

7. I will have to say 1980 too
That is the year that the southern strategy was solidified by race baiter Ronny Reagan. This is the firt time they were able to really control that "angry white man" demographic. They convinced white men (and women!) across this nation that liberals were trying to give all the good jobs to African Americans, all their money to welfare cadillac queens, and take religion away from them. These angry white men have never come back, although I do not see how things have changed much to the way they want them. Republicans have coopted their religion, sent their jobs overseas, and attempted to bring African Americans under their tent with the angry white men, because those evil democrats are trying to keep African Americans on the welfare teet. Of course, 1994 was an ugly year too, and 2001-2002.

So Today, you have republicans and republican lites in charge. Or maybe a better way to state it would be republicans and republican lap dogs in charge. You got your Zig Zag Zell, your Daschles, your Liebermans, your Bidens, your Gephardts, all in a game of political musical chairs to see who can sit on Shrubkin's lap first. Clinton, who I have deep respect for, still pulled some disgusting right wing tricks, like signing legislation allowing media consolidation, don't ask don't tell, "welfare to work," and DOMA.

Anyone even a tic left of center, like Clinton, is labeled a godless baby killing elitist bleeding heart tax vacuum.

3. It started out as a no-party nation.
And, most of the founders warned against rival parties and hoped that the nation wouldn't have them.

As to your question, I would say that when "property rights" transcended individual rights. Sometime around 1877 when the "radical Republicans" lost out to the Democrats and regular Republicans over reconstruction.

6. My Opinion
I really think it began very slowly during the Reagan years when he was beginning to build a pug base, but the slobs were able to grasp tightly during the Clinton years. Actually when Gingrich (hope I spelled his name correctly) became prominent... that is when the explosion happened. They saw during the Clinton years they could take the sex scandals and go with it. I think it was during the Clinton years I saw the rise of the Evangelical church on TV and radio in Arizona. This is when I noticed the Democrats went into hiding. The Dems were afraid to support Clinton, they ran away and let the pugs have it. Geez Louise, the pugs took control. So, if you follow things, the change actually was Reagan who planted the seeds, then Bush Sr actually fertilized the roots, watered the plants and let them bloom, then Clinton. Clinton was the bloom... Who killed the flower? How about bushes/weeds overcrowding the flowers and destroying them.

The weeds have taken over the garden. So, let's go work in the garden and pull out the weeds.!

Now the American people are being duped and contnue to be duped.

Hope this makes sense.

8. I'm not sure that
I understood your post correctly. Are you saying that the Clinton years were bad for America and the two-paarty system?
