I scanned the article you posted a link to and I didn't see anything about the hostages that I meant. They were French and male. I think they might have been journalists.

I was thinking of the two Italian women. I'd just read the article, and then saw your headline asking about hostages.

It says they should be released soon:
"Meanwhile, a French negotiator told an Arab television network Tuesday he met with the two French journalists held hostage in Iraq and that they will be released.

Christian Chesnot, 37, and George Malbrunot, 41, disappeared Aug. 21 while apparently driving toward the Iraqi city of Najaf.

"After a meeting with them, and those representatives of the delegation, we were effectively able to talk of the liberation of Christian and Georges," the negotiator, identified as Philippe Brett, said on the Al-Arabiya television station."

Meanwhile, a French negotiator says he has reached a deal with kidnappers to free two French hostages in Iraq, according to Arabic television.

The envoy told al-Arabiya TV he had seen Georges Malbrunot and Christian Chesnot, who were kidnapped on 21 August, and they would be released soon.
