My 1st thread: Ralph Waldo Emerson on George W. Bush
WooHoo, my first thread! Before you welcome me, I should just say that I’ve been here since early 2001, although I didn’t register until much later. Usually, I’d rather read than post. But there’s always a first, and this is it.

While reading the other day, I was brought up short by this description written by Emerson. You’da thought he knew Bush personally.

A man passes for that he is worth. What he is engraves itself on his face, on his form, on his fortunes, in letters of light. Concealment avails him nothing; boasting nothing. There is confession in the glances of our eyes; in our smiles; in salutations; and the grasp of hands. His sin bedaubs him, mars all his good impression. Men know not why they do not trust him; but they do not trust him. His vice glasses his eye, cuts lines of mean expression in his cheek, pinches the nose, sets the mark of the beast on the back of the head, and writes O fool! fool! on the forehead of a king.

4. Perfect first thread! Congrats!
That is my "favorite" photo of Bush.. shows his true nature. One quote I heard, that has stayed with me for years, is this:

"if you want to know the true character of a man, look at his wife's face". That quote is known to make grown men weep in the churches where it has been spoken..
