"NEW YORK - In a harbinger of security threats to come, hackers have exploited a newly announced flaw in Microsoft Corp. programs and begun circulating malicious code hidden in images that use the popular JPEG format.

Software tools to create the malicious images began appearing last month, and this week security experts saw images employing them posted on adult-oriented Usenet newsgroups."

This exploit affects all of the applications that use Microsoft's implementation of the GDI+ library. So actually, all browsers on Windows are vulnerable, even if you happen to apply the recommended Microsoft patch. So, really, this is another excuse to drop Windows, not just I.E.

(I must say, though, that if you insist on using Windows that switching away from I.E. is an extremely good idea, in most cases)
