My confrontation with a Repug college student

I was at a local college today conducting a final fire alarm test on a campus center. While waiting for my boss to arrive I made small talk with the installer near the mail room. Our conversation eventually got around to politics. Now I have to say that within the last week my son was told that his unit is on stand-by for activation and deployment to Iraq so I'm a little tense about it. As I was telling the installer how my son will now have to go to Iraq because of Bush's lies this kid with a Bush/Chenney 04 shirt on says Bush didn't lie, now I don't like arguments but I told the kid, how the hell do you know? and the kid starts in on the standard party line Sadam had WMDs blah,blah,blah. I said bullshit, there weren't any WMDs and Bush and Chenney are getting our young people killed in a senseless war. He says he believes in Bush and can't wait for his second term. So I say, ok you believe in Bush's war? sign up, I'll even drive you down to the federal building so you can put you ass where your mouth is. Come on big mouth, put up or shut up. He says his parents want him to go to school and study engineering and become an architect. So I say, oh I see, you're nice and safe back here while kids who's parents can't afford college die for your sorry ass. By now other students are gathering around and he's turning red and says he's got to get to class and hurries off.The installer says, wow I thought you were going to clock the kid, why are you so pissed? Well I told him about my son will be with a unit armed only with sidearms and he says that maybe the kid should've kept his yap shut. Oh yeah I was pissed alright.

This is the kind of stuff we have to make sure these kids hear. They don't want to admit that this is not a VIDEO GAME. And that it could actually affect them.

I always think of the kids in F911 who were cranking their rock music and saying "Burn Baby Burn." Not thinking for a moment about anyone else's pain and suffering. It's all hot shit to them. Doesn't mean anything. Just dead "towelheads," (*) right?

The democrats that I know who have sons fighting have imprssed on those kids the importance of what they're doing, but also the impact, positive and negative, that it has on other people's lives.

I can never understand this cavalier attitude these idiots have. I SO wish I could have been there to see this.

as well as others who were listening, what a coward he was. Also, by the others not saying anything, I would say they would shake in their boots if the draft came back.

I cannot understand why anyone would want Bush in for a second term. He has almost destroyed our civil liberties, our privacy, our legal rights, bankrupted this country worse then it has ever been, and taken all of the surplus plus SS for retirees and cleaned that account out. All we have is a bunch of IOU's for SS. Even Greenspan said if the economy (you know the real economy, not Bush's lies about the economy), continued the way it was, that by 2025 there will be absolutely nothing there. Oh that's a big surprise, huh.

Well, I'm getting off track here. Once I get started on this administration the words just don't stop rolling out of my mouth.

Hopefully, your son will not be called out of the Country. Keep us all posted about him if you don't mind.

I have a son who will be 26 on Oct 8th. I'm so thankful the draft hasn't come back. If it comes back before Oct 8th of next year, I don't know what we will do.

We do have 2 nephews that just turned 18 (both in college; however, they said if the draft came back, there would be no deferments for anything . . . I'll believe that when I see it. If the draft were to come back, I think they should draft young women as well. Like the Bush girls.

Those two girls have their parents wrapped around their little fingers and blind. Those girls wanted to help their dad with his campaign. Bushs***!! They wanted to take time off after college. They are just like their father . . . lazy! By doing this, they will get almost a whole year off after graduating from college. How stupid are W and Laura?

I am so sorry about your son. My best friend just went through that, but transferred units at the last minute, so now she has a hard billet and is going to Bahrain for 3 weeks instead of Kuwait for a year, she said anyone who has a soft billet or no billet is going, hang it up, they told her before her transfer went through to get her will and powers of attorney ready, etc.

Her C.O. bottomlined it, otherwise it wouldn't have happened, and only because she had already been to ITA school and is in school for IT, they were going to send her for cargo-handling.

You would have been completely justified if you had decked him...but your words were even more effective.

I would never become confrontational with a complete stranger, in public, no less, about politics and numerous other topics. It's called 'common sense', and is strongly correlated to concepts as widely divergent as 'decency' all the way to 'self-preservation'.

But then, I don't kick sleeping dogs or spit at people in wheelchairs, either, so perhaps I was raised poorly.

23. My son

is a Navy Seabee. He will be assigned to a ship and will be ferried back and forth from where he will be working. Standard sidearms will be issued to him and the others in his unit with the exception of a Gunners Mate who will carried an M-16. You just can't build stuff while carring an M-16 I guess.
