Remember that famous photo of Lyndon Johnson...
He's in the oval office with his head down, left arm stretched out holding his glasses and his right hand clinched in stressful expression to his forehead?

Regardless of your opinion of his handling of the Vietnam war, here was a man who was listening to the message of a mother who just lost her son in that war. Who in the world would not feel such an overwhelming feeling of guilt, grief and empathy?

George W. Bush, that's who...

Over 1000 soldiers have died in Iraq, have we seen such a candid photo of our "president"?

He feels as if he has made no mistakes, he feels as if everything is going just swimmingly well in Iraq. He doesn't attend funerals, he doesn't allow the photos of the coffins coming back from Iraq, he hasn't called a single family of one of the fallen.

The psychologists at Nuremberg defied a monster as someone without empathy.

Honestly, could you see bush react the way Johnson did without it being a photo op?

This administration is without shame.

3. Actually, we get statements on that side instead minimizing the deaths
telling us we should be glad its ONLY 1,050, 1051, etc.

4. Although Johnson screwed things up
in Vietnam I do think he had a conscience when things started going bad and the high death toll affected him deeply. He aged quite rapidly and died only a few years after leaving office. I'm sure * doesn't lose any sleep at all. He sleeps like a baby, drinks, vacations and parties with no thought to our troops, our country or any of the suffering he has caused.

9. ..at least LBJ made it to two soldiers' funerals
"According to the Johnson Library, LBJ attended two funerals for soldiers who died during the Vietnam War. The first funeral was for Captain Albert Smith, son of White House correspondent Merriman Smith, which was held February 28, 1966. The second was for Major General Keith R. Ware, held September 17, 1968. LBJ had met Ware while visiting Vietnam."

10. Not to mention...
the photo referenced in the original post was LBJ listening to his son-in-law, Chuck Robb, who was a Marine Corps company commander on the ground in Vietnam. Imagine that....a president with a family member in harm's way!

7. sociopath
"The psychologists at Nuremberg defied a monster as someone without empathy."

Psychologists have a better term to describe someone like this and it's called a sociopath. You can't expect Bush to react the way LBJ did because he doesn't have the capacity to admit error or have a conscience about the repercussions of his actions. Despite his errors, LBJ was pained about Vietnam and it sent him to the grave early.

8. "Hey, Hey LBJ, how many kids will die today?" - supposedly it was that
chant by the war protesters that LBJ could hear in the Oval Office (no "free speech" zones in those days) that convinced LBJ to withdraw in 1968.

11. I remember from my own experience with the demonstrations
at San Francisco State in 1968, that the chant was, "Hey, hey, LBJ. How many kids did you kill today?"
