Additions to 9/11 Bill Could Export Immigrants into the Hands of Torturers; Amnesty Intl Experts Available to Discuss Anti-Human Rights Provisions Being Fast-Tracked Through the US House of Representatives

News Advisory:

Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) is making experts available to discuss the dangerous consequences of anti-human rights legislation being fast tracked through the US House of Representatives. One of the more controversial provisions being added HR 10, the "9/11 Recommendations Implementation Act of 2004," would legalize the outsourcing of torture-making it easier to deport someone to a country where they could be tortured. Other additions to the bill would increase the government's ability to secretly monitor individuals, summarily deport law- abiding immigrants living in the US with no hearing, and tell the "huddled masses yearning to be free" they are not welcome in the US. The new sections of the bill added in the House not only make it easier for federal officials to arbitrarily eject immigrants, but also gives the green light to sending them back to oppressive regimes where they could be tortured, imprisoned or worse.
