Oprah's show on voting is the reason they are going to attack her
It started with the season opening show--the criticism of Oprah. The giveaways were talked about on EVERY other broadcast medium. There were jokes made about it, there were "exposes" disclosing the fact that she didn't really give away the cars and gifts. Why?

I believe that the voting show she is airing today is the closest she's come to taking a political stance and because the shows take months to plan, somebody knew ahead of time that Oprah was going to do this show. So, they tried to cut her off at the pass by weakening her perceived power. It's nothing new that Oprah is not liked by extreme RW'ers. I've heard RW pundits refer to any show of emotion or display of sympathy to the human condition as "the Oprahfication of America."

The voting show is powerful. They are talking about how people's rights can be taken away; how things can get much worse. Now what, except BushCo could they be talking about? Cameron Diaz is talking aobut women's rights to their bodies and how America is alone in the world--weakened and no longer a super power.

The RW will be likely go in to full attack mode soon on Oprah trying their best to make things worse for her.

1. The LAST thing Republicans want is for people to vote
The fewer people who vote, the better it is for them. So any GOTV effort is bad news for them. It sounds like common sense good government to encourage people to vote, but not if you're a Republican.

2. She gets crap from both sides
No matter how many humanitarian shows she's done, no matter how much she has given to charities, people here will vilify her for having Arnold on her show that one time. People are also mad about the puff piece on Bush in the last election but they ignore the fact that Gore was given a puff piece as well.

I like Oprah, I think her life story is incredible, I think her generosity is wonderful and you couldn't pay me enough to be in her shoes. Unfortunately no matter what you do, people will always find a reason to hate you. Sad, isn't it?

A lot of people today take so much for granted. They don't know what
a privilege it is to be ABLE to vote!

6. I was pissed about the groper too but if someone
is helping to defeat bush in their own Large way..then I appreciate it.

Same with Michael Moore..some people were still pissed he supported nadir at one time..but hey..look at all the greater good he's done Lately!!

3. Howard Stern has 8 million listeners..mostly white guys...
Oprah has goodness-knows how many million viewers--mostly women.

If Rove & Co. decide it's good strategy to go after the icons of THAT many white guys (read: normally Repub voters), and THAT many women in this country...I welcome their attacks. I'll stick with Howard and Oprah--unlikely a duo as they are:eyes:--and I'll bet most of their viewers and listeners stick with Kerry as a result of their stands!:D

B-)

4. I think you're right..they don't leave anything to
chance..not if they can help it..but it probably amazes them with all their cunning plans..how many of them go awry!

I saw most of show today and it was Very Powerful!

Ophra got in a couple of obvious digs at bush..with her saying about Jake and Maggie registering the sorority girls and the students..That Mission Was Accomplished..and They didn't Leave Anyone Behind!!

Any Drew, Cameron, Christina, and PDiddy was passionate, eloquent, and very well informed..Not to mention Entertaining!!

7. Oprah violates every treasured tenet of their faith.
That she can be rich and concerned for those who are not.

That she can use her clout to better the lives of others and STILL KEEP GETTING RICHER.

That she can be respected and revered and full of grace and still have come up the hard way.

She's simply terrifying to them.

And if they vilify her, it will be them that backs will be turned on.

28. They felt the same way about Martha Stewart for a lot
of the same reasons. They tried before to go after Oprah when she turned Bush down on the Afghanistan trip, which they cancelled when she said no. She said after that that she had never felt so used before - she's on to their tricks. I really don't think they could find any real dirt on Oprah that she hasn't told everybody already, so they moved on to Martha and she paid the price. Evil smum.

12. Rush Limpballs has been attacking Oprah for years
It's been the battle of archetypes.

Borrowing from "Moral Politics," Oprah represents the nurturing mother figure that most often reflects liberal thinking. Rush represents the strict father figure that represents white supremacist warriors who kill now and ask questions later.

For years it's been, and will continue to be the feminazi vs. the real nazi.

13. You're right--they hate anybody and anything that is not fully self
sustaining. It's all about money--they think that people's failings will cost them dividends from their investment funds. It's amazing that they appeal to the Christians because one of the basic tenets of Christianity is that no man is an island. Can we say "hyprocisy" boys and girls?

15. Cameron Diaz actually broke down in tears.
It was so nice to see someone who could easily not give a shit, due to all she has in life, actually be brought to tears by the thought of what's happening to this country. I was extremely impressed by her. She also brought up the possibility of women no longer having control over their own bodies several times on the show. She came across as genuinely terrified of the thought of four more years of the current regime.

It was a great show. I was impressed by everyone she had on the show today.

on her message board. Take a look at what they have been saying. What a bunch of wackos. I've spent hours trying to set them straight. They're hopeless.

25. "Those evil liberal celebraties"..one of
which(Drew Barrymore)took a year off and ..

"Actress, producer, and now director Drew Barrymore just finished her first documentary, The Best Place to Start. She hired a camera crew and spent the past year traveling across the country in order to learn about our voting system—and even more importantly why so many of us aren't voting.

"In order to become more responsible, I decided to pick up a camera, make a documentary and learn along the way. And that's sort of how I educate myself. I sort of pave this road for myself and go, 'Okay, these are the things I want to learn.' I build a college for myself. I wanted to speak to kids. I wanted to understand why voting was so important."

Good Guess!

It would be so sad to be so ignorant as to not appreciate our Democracy!:-(

having Kerry on for an interview - if she has Kerry on, then she'll have to have Bush on for balance and that just helps Bush.
