What little respect I had for Schwarzenegger is now gone
He just showed what he thinks about the average American. Not only did he veto the legislation that would ban state contractors from taking jobs offshore, but he also vetoed the bill requiring all homeland security work to be performed inside the U.S. and the bill that required hospitals to tell patients if they use foreign companies to handle their medical info.

Schwarzenegger rejects bills to stem offshoring jobs

SACRAMENTO (AP) - Calling California a partner in a global market, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed legislation Wednesday that would ban state contractors from taking jobs offshore and two other measures aimed at making it more difficult to send jobs overseas.

One bill by Sen. Joe Dunn, D-Garden Grove, would have required hospitals and other medical service providers to tell patients if they use foreign companies to handle confidential records and to get permission from patients before sending their records overseas. A second, also by Dunn, would have prohibited any work considered essential to homeland security from being performed at a work site outside of the United States.

The governor also said by requiring all homeland security work to be performed inside the U.S. does not necessarily improve security. He said the bill would restrict competition and result in higher prices.

2. Well when he is President? Will you still like him?
I do think I heard Nancy P. say she thought laws should change on who could be President. My God if I heard right and to think she leads the House on our side.

3. At the RNC
Schwarzenegger showed what a true phony he is. He has no principles and just wants power-willing to sellout to corporate interests and all the while condemning dems for being in the pocket of labor unions as special interests. His "touching anecdotes" at the convention were nothing but a Hollywood script not very well authenticated with history. His admiration of Nixon and condemnation of HHH as reminding him of communists was disgusting. I hope the people of CA wake up to this guy.

13. I remember hearing....
about them trying to change the laws of the constitution so where non-born citizen's can run for President. Then I remember hearing someone (forgot who it was) ask Arnold if he ever thought about running for President and he said he didn't care to run and liked being governor. B.S. You know he wants to run! XOXO.

15. What gets me is why they voted him in at all.

California was hit very hard by the downturn in tech and outsourcing. Once all those jobs left, the state took a huge hit in tax revenue. Then they are also still trying to support the millions of "undocumented immigrants" in the southern part of the state.
And the high cost of living is driving more and more Californians out of the state. You can't blame one man (Davis) for an overall poor economy. Not only did the voters do that, but they voted in someone who supports outsourcing of all things.

I'm glad I moved out of California four years ago. When I lived there I was happy to vote Pete Wilson out, and had I still lived there I would not have voted for the recall. Arnold the republican is a lot different than Arnold the actor, too bad the California voters didn't see that before they voted him in.

And I respected him as Arnold the actor, I used to love watching him fight the Predator and I liked all of his Terminator movies.

32. Don't forget Schwarzenegger's buds with Ken Lay, et. al.
Enron and their right wing friends deliberately manipulated the energy
available to CA during the energy crisis when Gray Davis was gov. Davis became so unpopular because of "energy crisis" he was recalled after he had just defeated a Repub candidate. chief benefactor = Ahnold who has the nerve to campaign against Dems claiming they take money from special interests (labor unions) while all the time swilling in right wing slop bucket.

This was a few months ago.

This a steroid creep who couldn't even debate without knowing the questions in advance. But debate or no debate this idiot was going to win. The fix is in.

18. Ah-Nold is such a fucking clown show!
And the nit-wits that voted for him are beginning to realize this. He's selling the state out to corporate interests and killing the once great secondary education program this state once had.

Its still like a bad dream to me when I hear the phrase "Governor Schwarzenegger".

20. OM freakin' G!!! How dare repukes talk of homeland security!
Or the middle class!

This outsourcing, even of homeland security functions, only INCREASES THE CHANCE of problems.

You want security? You keep it with your own.

Why does the majority of Americans support this lunacy?!

All the stuff about him being "popular" has vanished, if you haven't noticed. He started the summer at 60% approval in California but his do-nothing summer and that televised speech at the RNC knocked him down to the mid forties. Which, btw, is right at the real support level for Republicans in CA. They don't hate him in CA yet, but his state policy advisors are the Pete Wilson crew and that's not exactly a recipe for popularity.

All the "moderate" Republican speakers took a hit in polling numbers after the RNC. Romney also went under 50% here in MA with it (though, like Schwarzenegger, for the way it reflected his recent behavior free of actual public service and full of selfservice perhaps more than for being a crude partisan). I'd be surprised if Giuliani and Pataki didn't take hits either. They sure sacrificed a bunch of their "moderates" politically on the altar of boosting up W at that shindig.

Romney, btw, no longer has Finneran as his foil and therefore isn't long for political viability in MA anymore. Don't be surprised if he bails out to the private sector- he wants to go to Washington but has ruined himself with Kerry, obviously, and the Bush people definitely wouldn't want to help him eclipse Jeb in the public eye. That basically leaves Utah (Hatch is probably retiring in '06) or going on corporate boards.
