Notice to DNC: Keep Dodd off the talk shows
He just got his ass kicked by John Warner on Blitzer's show which was pretty hard to do since Wolfie was actually being moderately fair today.
The repigs new talking point is that Kerry wants to have a "Global Test" before going to war, ie: asking Bolivia if they mind if we blow up Iran. When Condi pulled that bullshit earlier in his show he actually showed the clip of what Kerry said, and basically it showed Kerry saying that prior to going to war the government needs to be up front with the American people and at least inform our allies of what our plans are. The clip made it clear that Kerry thinks the US should act when it needs to, but that diplomacy and honesty with the public should be part of the equation.
When Wolf brought it up again with Dodd and Warner the ground had been laid for Dodd to swat that question away and move on. He could even have said that this is a desperate tactic by the GOP in response to Bush's terrible performance in the debate. BUT NO... he let Warner admonish Kerry ("loose lips sink ships") and make it sound like Kerry had opened the borders to all terrrorists. His response was muddled, weak and didn't refute the general charge that Kerry wants a "Global Test" before acting militarily.
It went down from there. He sucks at making any points for Kerry and can't seem to deflect the obvious spin from the GOP.
This should have been easy and he made it worse for Kerry than if Warner had just gone on by himself.
I don't understand why he was chosen to be one of the three or four Senators to do the Sunday shows - he is not helpful at all!!

1. I didn't see it, but if that was his response, there's no reason to have
him representing the Dems on talk shows any longer. Kerry's statement is TOTALLY DEFENSIBLE. Furthermore, he was not speaking literally that there is some TEST that we must pass or that someone needs to APPROVE our actions. It IS a desperate attempt by the losing side to twist Kerry's words and meaning.

This is easy. If Dodd couldn't properly respond, kick his a** off the shows!

2. I wish he had said 'smell test' instead, but
if the quote isn't taken out of context, he made it pretty clear what he meant by it. Too bad it gives the repuke spinners something to grab on to. Let's face it, the debate sure didn't give them much to hand their hat on.

3. Dodd is definitely not my kind of Dem
I have seen some of his comments on other issues and I wish he would just join Zell sometimes and become a repuke.

4. I think Dems are too good at pussy-footing and making nice because
Dems have been overruled on TV and in the houses of government.

I'll take the Black Caucus any day. They're nearly always brave. Boxer, Byrd, and Pelosi and some others do fine. Wellstone did. Thanks to the brave ones. They're perception often matches the patriots.

5. Here is something to make a note of:
Dodd is hooked up with Robert Ney, and would appear to be supporting the retention of HR2239 (the paper trail bill for e-voting machines) in Committee.

That act alone causes me to question this man's adgenda.

6. "global test" thing easiest to refute with Kerry's own words:
This is exactly what he said in the debate:

"The president always has the right and always has had the right for pre-emptive strike. That was a great doctrine throughout the cold war. And it was always one of the things we argued about with respect to arms control. No president through all of American history has ever ceded and nor would I the right to pre-empt in any way necessary to protect the United States of America.

But if and when you do it, Jim, you've got to do it in a way that passes the test. That passes the global test where your countrymen, your people understand fully why you're doing what you're doing. And you can prove to the world that you did it for legitimate reasons."

7. Rule #1 for confronting repugs:
Interrupt them mid-sentence when they are telling lies.

None of the etiquette of polite discourse applies when someone is lying. "Good manners" are NOT required when someone is being slandered. "Wait your turn"... and the damage has been done. Speak up, and speak the truth!

8. But I think we must agree
that we would all feel much better if he hadn't used the phrase "global test". I, too, would have preferred "smell test"

9. Dodd and Lieberman.....two of a kind. Worked together to dismantle SEC
regs in the 90's. Not much light of day between them.

10. I knew when I read........
that Dodd would be on, we were in trouble. He can be good, but mostly he's too moderate. I didn't think I'd ever be opposed to someone "moderate". Look what bush has done to me. :-)
