the after work crowd was arriving.
It was a surreal experience. I had a new polling place this time around, way out in the sticks. I hit the road about 4:30 and finally found the place just after 5pm. There were 4 machines, all in use, with two people in line besides me. For the first time I can recall, I had to fill out and sign a short form verifying my name, address, DOB, etc.
The machine model seemed different from the one I used in the last county I lived in. I forgot to check which model it was, doh. (After getting directions to the middle of nowhere, passing the polling place, turning around after my gas warning light went on *eep* and then finding the polling place, I was a little bit frazzled.) I voted, noticing no problems with the correct vote registering on the screen, for what that's worth. It gave me great pleasure to vote FOR KE and AGAINST a Constitutional marriage amendment.
As I finished and handed in the data card, six or seven people filed in. The poll volunteers said they were long out of the "I voted" stickers. They said the turnout was very heavy. As I got in the car, two more cars drove up.
This doesn't sound like much, but we're talking about a one room cinderblock courthouse ten miles from nowhere. I was very encouraged.
