Al Franken vs. Bill O'Reilly
I watched for the firsttime last night on c-span2 the Al Franken, Bill O'Reilly and Molly Ivins get together May 31, 03. It was a classic
to say the least!

Al Franken put Bill O'Reilly in his place and put down that "Fair & Balanced News" cliquish group known as FOX News T.V. When it
comes on again I will tape it.

When the framers who wrote the U.S. Constitution, talked of brotherhood they sure as hell had people like Bill O'Reilly in mind.

(yeah, occassionally I listen to reich-wing radio for a few moments on my drive home, as much as my stomach will allow)

anywhooo - on Friday, Bork reported that Faux news did not want pursue a lawsuit, the managment, FAUX lawyers, reporters etc were against it saying that it wouldn't fly and they would be lose - but O'Reilly threw a prima-donna tantrum and pushed for it anyways... FAUX caved and filed.

result - FAUX lawsuit boosted sales of the books, lawsuit was thrown out of court and FAUX has egg dripping down their face

... a stupid thing? Well, it turns out Ailes was against the lawsuit, but he caved into the demands of his Prima Donna Star ... none other than Bill O'Reilly. Air conditioning was invented in 1902. It's now over 100 years later and the French still haven't installed air conditioning in their ...

3. Loved it! We need this kind of tenacity instead of Ivans' ...
cowardice masquerading as maturity.

10. One thing Molly Ivins is not
is a coward. Would you have had both of them jumping on poor Bill? That's a Repuke tactic, and would have only given him ammunition. As it is, he can't defend himself. I believe Ivins when she says (after the forum) that she WOULD tell O'Liely to his face that he was a verbal bully. We're better off if we don't attack our friends...

4. They both seemed to be afraid of each other.
O'Reilly hid behind Ivin's skirt, and Franken called to Pat Shroeder for help. lol.

5. I disagree partly.
Al was completely right in calling on Pat to DO HER JOB. When you agree to moderate or chair a panel like that, it is your job to control bullies. It puts participants in a bad position to have to both advocate for their views and moderate. She should have gently told Al when he was running over his time (a minor transgression). Then, she should have interrupted and firmly told Bill he was completely out of line to tell anyone to shut up (a major transgression). This is hard for a nice person who is not comfortable with confrontation, but unfortunately, anyone who knew anything about O'Reilly should have been able to prepare for this, or suggest someone else serve as moderator. Such as Judge Judy...

7. I didn't see Al Franken running away
after the debate ended. But I sure saw Bill O'Reilly going as fast as his well balanced legs could carry him. LOL!
