Moving to a Blue State
For the last few months my family and I have been discussing whether or not to move. We currently live in TN.

After this we have now decided. While we can't move out of this country which my husband and I wore a uniform for, we can leave right wing Northeastern TN.

He's a truck driver and we can live anywhere.

We have friends in Wisconsin. We're on our way.

2. I'm in Illinois where we appear to be moving even more Democratic.
We replaced our Republican governor with a Democrat and our US Republican senator with a Democrat. I have relatives in Wisconsin. Enjoy!

6. Adams County, Pennsylvania
We had a strong party this year. Strongest small party in the T - we won the county for Casey and we think we did damn good for a minority party, although we didn't win for Kerry, of course, we didn't expect to.

- National Apple Harvest Festival
- Historic Gettysburg
- Maryland Border/Mason Dixon Line
Commuters to Harrisburg, DC, Washington, York, Baltimore
- No Sales Tax on Food, Clothing

We're building a comprehensive county municipal takeover plan for 2005. First time in years. Our donkey has kick. We raised more money for Kerry than the Republicans did for Bush and we're outnumbered 2 to 1.

Help keep the state blue since it was on the edge this election, but we really need people willing to help turn Red states Blue. By leaving, you are making TN that much Redder.

26. It's a scary thought, ain't it Gloria
The lone oasis of blue state sanity in an ocean of blood red craziness.

And it keeps getting closer every election....what the hell is going on....

I agree, encourage blue-staters in heavily blue populations or in a red state they don't want to be in, to come and save New Mexico.

16. moving to Wisconsin---go Packers!
Welcome to the Badger State! Think Green and Gold. :-)
Lots of good things here 1) Summer fest, 2) Progressive tradition, 3) Madison, 4)camping, 5) Lake Michigan and Superior, 6) Door County, 7)Chicago nearby 8) the Packers, the Brewers and the Bucks, 9)UW and Marquette.

One problem: long winters, you'll need a snow blower

17. I'm looking into it too
I just started working for a company with large offices in OH, NY, NJ, and IL. I currently live in Ohio. Any of the other states look like a better choice. I would only be a quick plane trip from my family. I'm just not ready to completely leave the U.S., but a change of state may be in order. I have always loved the Chicago area....

and it really makes a world of difference. just about everyone i know is at least somewhat liberal and we talk politics all the time. in TX, it was like we were speaking different languages. living in a place like this makes me prouder to be american and not so pessimistic about the future.

38. I have the same observations too.
I've lived in Maine all my life up until 3 years ago when we moved to Florida. I was much happier in Maine. I've been plotting my family's return to New England for over a year now.

I know how people are up there. They have a different mentality than they do here. I can connect with New Englanders and understand them. I have problems doing this with Floridians, and Florida is supposed be be the most liberal of the southern states.

36. Exactly
Ohio is where blue and red-staters should move. Or other close battleground states like Wisconsin.

Moving from red to blue just adds to the red electoral edge.

There are plenty of cool areas in plenty of battleground states. I live in one of them. St. Louis (city) went 80% for Kerry. No where in Illinois outside of Chicago is as liberal. Come on over, Illinois!

21. We have friends in Racine
For the last month I've looked at the area and I've liked what I've seen. It sits between Chicago and Milwaukee just off Lake Michigan. There's a lot of things I really like from what I've seen.

Before the election we had already made plans to visit the area and we're set to leave tomorrow morning. We'll be there until Monday to check the area out. I have no doubts it'll be to our liking.

A move isn't going to happen until after the holidays into the New Year.

Yes, it's in the middle of winter. We've done heavy winters before and I have no problem with snow. We need more of it.

I'll have a snow-blower in back of the moving van. :)

Thanks! I'm starting to feel much better and the light at the end of the tunnel is returning. This is for our kids and we feel this is the best for us and them.

regardless of the outcome of the election. We're in Florida right now. My husband is going to apply to a school in Connecticut, so we might be moving there. Otherwise, we're going back to our real home, Maine. Either way, I'm going to like it a lot better than here. We gave the south a shot for three years, but we're not liking it too much.

34. Wouldn't a lot of southern dems moving to dem strong holds
in New England, West Coast, and Great Lakes area alter the landscape of the current electoral map? Wouldn't that take away electoral votes from the hard core red states and concentrate them even more in the blue states?

I was just talking about this with my brother.

43. I know that you are right about moving out
I am torn between staying in the US and fighting and liquidating my assets and opening a cafe in Amsterdam. (and I'm currently in NJ).

But there is something to be said for living in a place you are comfortable, especially if you have kids who you are trying to raise with certain values - like tolarance, love, open-mindedness, etc.

For the record (and I can hardly believe I am saying this) we moved to NJ 11 years ago and I really love it here. It's a bit pricey though.
