Why Everybody Is So Quiet
Well, it seems that way.

Here's what they're doing:

Democrats: stunned, in shock, uncomprehending.

Republicans: a little embarrassed. They now have total control but are henceforth unable to use either of their primary weapons: Blame and Rage.

The Freepers: running out of ideas for how to gloat.

Mainstream Media: in hiding. With good reason. Every one of their calls were erroneous.

Wall Street and OPEC: quietly making money, hoping no one will notice that they are celebrating getting a green light to increase energy prices, de-employ American labor, and retool to a high-tech feudalist system.

The Military: their Maximum Leader, to whom they have pledged their troth, has defeated the weaklings, the appeasers, the peaceniks and the girly-men -- and has ordered them into the breech without so much as a change of underwear.

Europe: too busy preparing the Euro to replace the Dollar as the world's reserve currency standard.

The Religious Right: oiling the whips.

Jesus: taking a long, hot shower, with lots of soap.

7. The laughing part I can handle
It's what they might now do to a country that actually elects the person responsible for causing their countries hundreds of thousands of deaths. I'm absolutely numb. Unfortunately, when Americans FINALLY OPEN THEIR EYES, too much damage is already being done.

That's been my thought all along. Right now i feel paralysed, but we must really fight. Our lives do depend on it.

10. Republicans now unable to use Blame and Rage? Are you kidding me?
Republicans: a little embarrassed. They now have total control but are henceforth unable to use either of their primary weapons: Blame and Rage.

BareKnuckledLiberal,

For the past four years:
Republicans have controlled the White House.
Republicans have controlled the House.
Republicans, for most of the time, have controlled the Senate.
Republicans have controlled the Supreme Court and most lower Federal courts.
Republicans have controlled the majority of state houses and governorships.
Republicans have controlled the media.
Republicans have controlled nearly all major corporations.

Guess what they just used to solidify their power in the 2004 elections?

BLAME AND RAGE.

Republicans could hold all nine seats on the Supreme Court and filibuster-proof majorities in both houses of Congress, and they would STILL find a way to blame everything that's wrong with America on US.

11. My Retort to that
I care not how they'll answer. They now have no excuse for failure, and we ought to keep that in our minds and on our lips.
"You're blaming ME?

"You got EVERYTHING you wanted -- the Presidency, the House, the Senate, the Judiciary, the Media, the Governorships, the Military, the Schoolroom, the Pulpit, the Boardroom -- and you're blaming ME?

"Here's one thing you DON'T have -- you DON'T have Personal Responsibility. So grow up, accept some responsibility, and stop blaming everybody else for your own failures!"
I admit, they MAY be able to use the Blame-and-Rage thing again as soon as the indictments and subpoenas start coming down, but that will take a year to a year and a half.

The world just became a much more dangerous place for Neoconservatism.

And life will go on. We have a movement to build. The next electoral challenge we can offer comes in 24 months.

The personal challenge now is to ride this out. To "let it bleed" a while, to bind the wounds, to sleep it off, then to regroup, conduct a post-mortem, and start afresh.

I believe in my vision of America. I will give that up only when I'm dead.

16. Republicans: a little embarrassed...
Republicans: a little embarrassed. They now have total control but are henceforth unable to use either of their primary weapons: Blame and Rage.
You know, that was the ONE bright spot I could find in all of this: The wind has been taken out of their sails. It's no secret that the Republican party thrives on a common enemy. Winning the Cold War had this very effect on them; it was Reagan's shining moment, and the party's peak of power (until now, of course). After that, they didn't know quite what to do with themselves. For a while after the Berlin Wall came down, they just lost momentum.

Oh, sure, they created other common enemies -- gays, for instance; but not only have they now defeated the Dems, they also set back gay rights in this country for decades. So that's not one, but two major enemies they've crushed (at least for the time being).

So, right now, I believe their uncharacteristically subdued behavior is a result of, "Well, we finally summitted Everest! Uh... now what do we do?"

They also know that once you've summited the highest peak in the world, there's only one way to go, and that's down.

(For a split second this morning, I considered the possibility that their lack of over-the-top gloating was the result of the victors actually feeling some compassion for the defeated -- but then I came to my senses, and realized that such a ridiculous notion had to be the result of my own grief-induced, disjointed thinking.)
