Stop watching cable news
Stop shopping at Walmart. Stop listening to Clear Channel. Stop watching Sunday morning facist propaganda. Write, create, discuss and challenge your mind. Be honorable and lead others by example. Be upright and a good citizen. Stay involved and mentally sharp. Stand up to your fears. Speak out. Take care of your body. Share and be generous and compassionate.

Unless the election was not stolen outright, then the fact that 18-44 year-olds failed to vote in useful numbers is troubling to the extreme. It might be necessary for women to see their reproductive rights taken away and for men and women to lose their personal freedom through forced military conscription for those folks to learn how important it is to participate in their own lives. I am flummoxed to hear how many people offer post-mortum views that Bush will somehow be constrained by popular opinion from committing acts that would cause these individuals dismay. In fact, there is nothing to stop him from doing whatever he wants accept by protest and acts of restistance.

Personally, I have a hard time seeing myself be beaten or jailed defending the basic rights of those who have gleefully accepted a glass of poisoned Kool-Aid. But that is what good Americans do, so I guess it is time to saddle up and get started on the next good fight. At least, this time I feel like I am amongst friends.

Feel the love.

1. I agree.
We need to start looking within ourselves. We need to shut out all the crap you mention.

2. Hell, stop watching ALL television
It's the bane of Democracy when the garbage it spews duls the minds of the masses. Faux news is the culmination of the television tool. Zappa was right.

3. Thank you - I've just cancelled my "expanded" cable -
keeping the basic network channels & cspan. I let them know my reason is I am no longer willing to pay for access to CNN or MSNBC. I'm sending an email to CNN and MSNBC letting them know I'm disconnecting them.

After the shock & dismay have worn off I will continue working with progressive groups. Connecting with DU, MoveON, ACT and others this fall has been lifegiving & I know I can't live with myself if I sink back in my cacoon.

It felt so good driving people to the polls yesterday and even though we lost, I made a difference in 6 people's lives. Action is the solution.

Speaking of action, I'm going outside and rake leaves now. Mindless activity helps too... :)

THINK GLOBALLY, ACT LOCALLY
