Alberto Gonzalos' Appointment
Does anyone think that Hispanics will see Alberto Gonzalos' appointment to AG as the appointment of a token Hispanic. I ask this question in that recently I heard a list of all the posts that Bush appointed Gonzalos to when Bush was the governor of TX. It seemed as if Bush appointed him to every post he could. I am sure Bush appointed him to at least three posts. After hearing the list of places Gonzalos was appointed it seemed to me that Gonzalos was a token Hispanic that would be placed in high positions so Bush could say he was appointing Hispanics.

2. I *WISH* They Would See It That Way. Unfortunately,
it looks like they are taking it at face value. See this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1351296 La Raza and LULAC are just falling over themselves "welcoming" and "commending" this on the basis of first-Hispanic-any-Hispanic. MALDEF is going to review his whole record before taking a stand. It was a better outlook during the ESTRADA thing, with Hispanic organizations against him (except for the perenniel two cited above).
