48. Believe me... I didn't make it hard for the FBI or the CIA to find me.
I've written the FBI and CIA several times over the last two years in regards to issues of terrorism and issues involving this administration. They know where I stand, they know where I live and I don't care if they come to see me or not. If they come to see me, I'll just have a couple more insiders as contacts. I find it's helpful to remind our government operatives about who they're supposed to serve.... you know... "We, the People". Any agent who visits me is going to be an agent asking himself "Why the hell were we sent to talk with this guy?"

I live on E. 10th St in the Pine Grove Apts #16, if any agents want to have some coffee with me. We could talk about foreign relations, domestic security or whatever else you want to talk about. I'm always willing to help make America a safer place for "The People".

6. Yes and I think they troll the Free Republic too
Both boards seem to attract the extremes of both ends of the political spectrum. Those people don't make up the majority of either board, but people from the extremes of the political spectrum usually end up causing the most problems. I think that the boards have low priority (because reallywhat idiot is going to lay out their plans on a public website) and they check it every once in awhile.

but we're not doing anything illegal, though it might be if bush has his way. We don't encourage violence, we're very patriotic, most of us believe in God. What can they do? ok, i know some of that answer. If they take one of us, we will all stand though. Once the other Americans realize whats happening, they will even stand with us if it ever comes to it.

16. I think we've been too paranoid
I'm sure that there are self-appointee patriots and guardians of the public weal who "monitor" liberal websites and compile dossiers in the style of international spies, but they're less like James Bond and more like Austin Powers. The (non-Autin) Powers That Be are largely content to allow us libbruls to bitch and moan. They view it as an efficient outlet for righteous anger, and it keeps the pretense of Democracy alive.

I have some personal experience in these matters. When I was in college in the late 70s and early 80s, I was the co-"publisher" of an underground newspaper, a folio, really, and an early, shabby precursor of The Onion. One of the gag columns discussed plans for a Mock Draft Protest, because President Carter had authorized a Mock Draft Call-Up to test the new registration system.

Well, two FBI field agents visited my school, and on a day I wasn't there. The older students, some of who had been part of the Counterculture a decade earlier, were scared out of their minds that The Man was pulling back on the leash, and that the bootheel of Fascism was coming down on their necks.

But one of my friends, who at that time was 19, told me that the agents were respectful and actually seemed to be annoyed that they were sent out to chase down a couple of young, second-rate comedians. It appears that even the Dean had spoken a few words in my defense, in spite of the fact that I hadn't even met him. My father, who was a Defense Department worker, didn't even hear about it, let alone suffer any repercussions. And that was the end of it.

We're not fighting a pre-WW2 style fascist tyrant. The Bush Cabal, and the other ruling cabals, operate far differently than that. They are more economic machines than incarnations of public psychosis. This is probably why the number of people who have been subject to the USA-PATRIOT act have been relatively few; in four years, Hitler was able to fill several dozen work- and death- camps with people he didn't care for, the Jews and Poles and Gypsies and Communists and others who suffered under or perished in The Holocaust. Stalin's tyranny was much more cold, sterile, and mechanical, claiming 10-50 million victims, the number depending on the counging criteria used. But relatively few of his victims suffered traditional official abuse and oppression -- most of them died of engineered famines, illness, and the brutal cold of the Russian winters.

If Team Bush establishes an American Tyranny, it will certainly be automated, computerized, and threaten the population of the world with death. But since there can be no political power if the population has died off, there is a limit to how far they will go. They're in it for power, not for kicks.

The upside? This is situation that we can use to re-assert Democracy in an age where Democracy is on the skids.

43. Sure. FBI Director Mueller was reading a DU post on 9/11/01, just
about an hour before Bu$h, I mean, bin Laden destroyed the WTC.

Here is the post Mueller read:

Why do you think that Cheney told the FBI to stop investigating suspected Saudi terrorists in the US?

Could Cheney be planning some sort of "Reichstag fire" catalystic event, a domestic terrorist attack, in order to strike fear into the hearts of the American sheeple in order to orchestrate a fascist takeover of the US, and turn our country into an aggressive one party military police state? Gee, I think bin Laden is going to hit the WTC with an airplane sometime today.

Gosh, why is the FBI reading this post instead of stopping terrorists from attacking the WTC?

Oh, yeah - Cheney told them to stand down, and not stop the Saudi terrorists.

Never mind.

If they think someone like me or you are terrorists, then they got waaaaaaaaaaaay too much time on their hands. They should be out looking for the REAL enemy, not its own citizens who ARE NOT terrorists. :grr: :grr: :grr:

For those lurking agents (if there are any), I advise you to pick-up and read the book 1984. You might learn a thing or two. Also, brush up on your history of WWII and Nazi-Germany, because that's the direction your leader is heading this country into.

46. FCC clarifies that they do, in fact, control everything
FCC to regulate internet and home computers

http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20041115-4402.html

The FCC's brief, filed in response to PK's challenge to FCC's jurisdiction in the flag matter, is breathtaking. FCC's position is that its Act gives it regulatory power over all instrumentalities, facilities, and apparatus "associated with the overall circuit of messages sent and received" via all interstate radio and wire communication. That's quite a claim.

The scope of such a claim is immense, reaching people's PCs and any other conceivable digital television consumption device. Unfortunately, it's evident that much of the FCC's latest legislation (and hubris) comes at the behest of the larger players in the content production industry, which doesn't bode well for consumers. The trifecta of increasingly draconian copyright restriction, combined with the new ability (via the DMCA) of private entities to effectively set their own copyright rules outside scope of the law, and an FCC that thinks it controls as much as it does, create a harsh environment for smaller companies and consumers. Indeed, the FCC's dismissal of 70 years of procedures reflects the potential problems we could face in near future:
