Funny thing about America's coverage of England's "terror threat"
Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 04:22 PM by annabanana
The report is that an Al Qaida attack (an airplane/buildings one) was thwarted. Our newsho's are making a point to mention that the report isn't receiving much attention in England, citing "convenient timing" to distract from plans for new infringements on civil rights.

They see pretty damn good with that beam in their eyes, don't they.

edit: correcting some misheard blather

1. The impression I got
I just picked up one snipet from CNN and one from MSNBC this a.m. The guy (in England) on MSNBC seemed to stress the part that people were not believing it and very much suggesting that Tony is just copying our asshole in order to get elected by the British aren't as stupid as this nation and not swallowing it. Hemmer on CNN tried to play it up as "the horrible terrorists are ready to murder and they were caught in the nick of time---be afraid, be very afraid". I think MSNBC is the one that was right on the money!!!!!!!!!

4. It's hardly been talked about
Barely anything about it on the BBC or Channel 4. It's not very prominent on most newspaper websites, and the ytend to suggest that if there was a threat, it's from a couple of years ago. I think someone may have been pulling the Daily Mail's leg (or they just made it up):

Claims that the security services foiled a plot by terrorists to fly an aircraft into Canary Wharf, London's tallest building, were played down last night by senior Whitehall officials.

Anti-terrorist sources said they were unaware of any plot to attack the tower, though for some time they have had it on their list as an obvious "iconic target".

"The assertion is surprising", said one well-placed official, referring to claims on ITV and in the Daily Mail newspaper.

The reports also named Heathrow airport as a target. Unlike Canary Wharf, the airport was mentioned in computers seized by Pakistani authorities in early August.
