If they're going after the NAACP, why aren't they going after the churches
This is in reference to Mfume stepping down from the NAACP. He isn't guilty of doing anything that the right-wing evangelicals did every Sunday before the election and are still doing:

Clip from the New York Times:

NAACP Chief to Step Down

White would not say why Mfume was stepping down and said Mfume would not comment until the midday news conference.

Mfume, 56, has been president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People since 1996. Before that, he was a congressman for nine years.

Last month, the organization's chairman, Julian Bond, announced that its tax-exempt status is under review by the government in an investigation he contends stems from a speech he gave that criticized President Bush. Bond said IRS agents were investigating his keynote address July 11 at the NAACP's annual convention in Philadelphia.

For an organization to keep its tax-exempt status, ``leaders cannot make partisan comments in official organization publications or at official organizational functions,'' according to an Oct. 8 letter to the NAACP from the IRS office in Louisville, Ky.

1. Well, silly!
The churches didn't say WHO to vote for! They just hinted all over the place.

5. There are DUers who claim they've been harrassed by their
preachers because they had bumper stickers for John Kerry. The preachers said that they weren't Christians because they were voting for someone who was pro-choice.

That is basically the same thing.

2. Blacks attacked...
along with gays and women. Who is going to be attacked next? Maybe I am just paranoid, but something this blatently discriminatory scares the hell out of me because it's going to get worse.

15. Who's next? Well...
One might think adulterers, the many times divorced, spouse beaters and child abusers but, hey, that would include a LOT of fundies. Although, I do think they will put forth a strong effort to rework the divorce laws. They tried it here in Colorado a couple of years ago, and the Arkansas governor and his little wifey are promoting covenant marriage, just on a volunteer basis, of course.

3. I am not surprised.
Jerry Fart-well and the bush christians oppose the concept of evolution because it interferes with the "christian identity church's" position that gawd created each race as it were to support a hierarchy of humans. Whites at the top, everyone else below.

This attack is merely the natural outcome of their beliefs. How dare anyone attempt to raise the blacks above the status of animals?

4. Just wait until whites are the minority....
How long will it take in this country? Twenty or thirty years? It's already happening in some parts and whites are the minority in the world. Hopefully they'll have a little more compassion than we have shown them.

6. I tried to warn them.
These foolish whites don't realize that today's Affirmative Action may be their only protection in the future.

7. Actually, their "protection" comes
from atom bombs and the willingness to use them.

Also, entrenched power that is of the "correct moral value system" goes along way as well.

My prediction is that (not unlike Nazi Germany or E Germany under the STAZI)those who do not fit the republi-KKK-lan mold will never find permanent or meaningful employment.

Say hello to the new christian imperialism that will rob the not-so-worthy Americans to benefit the oh-so-deserving republicraps.

Just like during the 50's-60's in the "bible belt" there were a hell of a lot of white males that could not vote because they did not meet the discriminatory voter eligibility rules that were in force.

The "good old days" of the "good old boys" is on the way back

8. There was something a pharmecutical "friend" of mine said
that makes me believe things are going to get a whole lot more segregated in the future. He's a right-winger, and before I shut him down he was trying to tell me the real reason why they're against abortion. It very much has to do with keeping the number of American births up or the immigration numbers are going to overwhelm us.

Well, he did cryptically also tell me a few months ago that doctors are considering being selective about their clientele. In other words, they're not going to be open to HMOs. It will all be word of mouth advertisement. I didn't think much about it until I realized that he's very closely affiliated with his Southern Baptist church. Hmmm....

9. I believe that Jimmy Carter ended his long term
affiliation with the Southern Baptist Church several years ago. I cannot remember what the last straw was, but I do recall a comment someone made about the erosion of genuine christian values.

I do see evidence of a new American Taliban emerging in the fundamentalist christian churches of America. We are definitely on our way back to Salem. This administrations Delbert mixing of religion, conservative poetics, a sense of national pride, coupled with a profound desire to fund and use the military to meet "moral ends" should have any sane person nervous as hell.

I believe the NAACP will not be the only organization that will be threatened either. Organizations like the SPLC, ACLU, Sierra Club, Amnesty International, or the interfaith alliance will surely come under attack sooner or later.

The conflict is between the Rights of Humans (all flavors)coupled with the Rights of the Planet as opposed to the rights of capitalism and the greed of the individuals who wish to practice it without restraint.

11. Jimmy Carter was a pure Dem. And he had high values.
I wish he were 40 years younger so he could have another shot at it.

12. He is a great man.
You will remember that he lost due to an act of treason commited by regan and bush (former head of CIA) They cospired with the Iranians to capture and hold the American Hostages until after the 1980 election. Their reward was sophisticated military weapons.

IMHO, the bush family is a scourage. Jeb will be the next to steal the WH.

10. I honestly believe that at the fundamental (no pun intended)
base of the Fundie's outrage about abortion is the fact that WHITE women have them and they are afraid that non-whites are having too many babies.

14. You are absolutely correct.
I have heard this exact comment directly from a wide cross-section of the extreme right wing.

In our neck of the woods, we have the "Families First" organization which is anti-gay by definition.

Do you think they mean "all" families first regardless of ethnic background? Not a chance.

13. Just the usual Orwellian Double Standards of a Totalitarian Amerika
Yawn.

NAACP stands in oppposition to The Party. Bushevik Chruches now permitted to act as Bushevik Campaign Stations (and we've all seen and heard it) are WITH The Party.

Same as in Communist Russia.

The Power of the State is brough to bear ONLY against enemies of The Party. If The Party does it, it's OK.

Imperial Amerika grows more like the Soviet Union every day.
