Bush may find the next 4 years rough sledding
Edited on Tue Dec-07-04 03:16 AM by Ruffhowse
Chimpy may find things tougher for him over the next 4 years. It seems to me that not only will he have to wrestle with alienated and outraged Democrats, but that he will find his own party to be a difficult bunch to keep in line. I think Chimpy will find himself a lame duck extremely early, and you just don't get the same party loyalty once you've reached that status. The religious right I expect will be especially hard on Bush. They'll want payback for their support much quicker than Chimpy will be able to provide it. The changes they want will mostly have to come through a newly far right wing Supreme Court, and it will take Bush years to put that together, if he can do it at all (GO DEMS!!! BLOCK, FILIBUSTER, BLOCK!!) The religious right might throw it's support early for '08 to someone else, leaving Bushboy a dollar short and a day late. If Bush spends most of his political capital on his fat cat friends for things like privatized Social Security, that's going to further alienate the Fundies. You're also going to see a lot more independence (and have already with the 9/11 bill stalled in Congress) from Capitol Hill. As legislators see Bush more and more of a lame duck, they will start jockeying for position for power and control, and for a possible run in '08. Hopefully some of this scenario comes true and Bush gets boxed in for the next few years and is unable to accomplish much.

1. You might be right about some things. I disagree with the 'outraged...
Dem's' statement. I think we are the only outraged Dem's and obviously what we think means squat. I believe the Dem's in 'power' have rolled over and are playing dead. They ain't going to be fighting for anything.

4. The Dems in "power" are definitely not representing us.
I'm not sure exactly why they seem to have sold out.

5. I've been driving myself and my friends crazy trying to figure...
out the 'selling out' part. But it's apparent that they must have. Either that or they've been deballed. Any way you look at it, it sucks!

14. Don't be fooled by the little play on Capital Hill ...

Sen Fritz did EXACTLY what Bush wanted him to do. These guys operate from a "central playbook". Bush NEVER wanted the intelligence reform. Getting a Senator to oppose it FOR him, was just a way of taking heat off him.

I don't think Bush will be "hard pressed" by the fundies. Bush IS a fundie!!! And I think he's 100% in line with what the fundies want!!!

Bush is 100% "in charge" of the executive and the legislative branches of government. Only ONE justice separates the right wing nutcases from taking COMPLETE control of things.

2. I agree....
In your piece you did not mention Iraq. How much patience does the American public have? How many more casualties will they tolerate? It seems that from the '04 election that they haven't had enough.

Shrub has a very good propaganda machine with Rove. And I also think that his downfall will come from within the party.

Finally I will express an opinion that may not be popular here which is good riddence to Tom Daschle, I am tired of Dems that simply rolled over to this administration.

6. We have no checks and balances

Bush has every branch of government and has purged every corner of every agency. Soon even the Supreme Court shall be " His, all his!" (insert George's screwy snicker here.)

I think he finally has his cakewalk.

Unless we protest every day in very loud voices, I think his sledding shall be pleasant if not downright fun for him.

Edit: I do agree with you in that it's up to us, Republicans included, to complain ALOT to make it tough for him.

7. Ya think?
There is no way that we will accept his presidency if the internet rumors prove true. We're going to be calling for him to step down if the election was fixed. I completely disagree with Novak who said we need to accept him for the good of country. On the contrary. The first step to regaining our integrity as a nation is to demand that he step down, if these rumors keep snowballing and we discover the truth.

10. Not good enough.
The Republicans have full control of the House and Senate; and they're going to take over the Supreme Court. It's a red herring to call Bush a lame duck because he will be more powerful in the next two years than at any other time in a president's tenure.

If this election proves to be fixed, nothing he does after January 21, 2005 will be legitimate.

11. Nope you already fell for their smoke and mirrors
I don't mean this personally but apparently their message got to you as was their goal.

Novack started this nonsense with a column last week.

The Republicans are going to stage pretty little fights so that it doesn't appear that they are in as lockstep as we know they are. We have already seen it with Duncan Hunter (dumbest member of the House) supposedly so very concerned about the battlefield Chain of Command but really carrying Rummy's water-THAT is how in step they are. Hunter relented and they paid lip service to driver's licensure (isn't that a state power?) and removed it.........or did they? I would suggest that anything sent up for a vote be read very carefully and be aware that they WILL (and have) tried to sneak things through.

This is all for the cameras and to make the Hill under Delay's thumbs appear not to be the rubberstamp that it was in the first term.

See post #11 here for the best analogy
