Elks - BPOE what a joke
Yesterday my husband received a 'lovely' pin in the mail from the Elks club, with a request for money.

The letter that accompanied the pin reads in part:

Have you ever wondered why the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks has become one of the most active fraternal organizations in the world?

In a Word, loyalty.

And I'm not only speaking of our loyalty to local lodges and to the Elks National Headquarters.

I'm also referring to the loyalty that we exhibit to our loved ones, to America...

The pin is oval with a white center that says Elks. The oval is surrounded by a border of the American flag - but when you flip it over it says "made in China" hows that for loyalty to America?
Sorry but that is just plain wrong not to mention disgusting.

1. I know it's not funny...
...but it did provide my first chuckle of the morning!

2. Elks is really championing the "support the troops" stuff
My repug inlaws just had a big Elks dinner for troops and it was a big * love-fest. I can't wait to tell them to turn over their pin and see "made in China" - they think they're so patriotic.

3. They are a drinking club, and most (if not all)of the beer
is American made. Heck, you can even get PBR there.

They do a fair amount of public service here, but between the beer, the gambling on Fridays, and the cheap lunches for business people, this pretty well sums up their raison d'etre in my town.

4. Be Protestant Or Else
It also doesn't hurt to be a drunk.
