What makes the fundies think they will be taken in the Rapture?
According to Revelations the 144,000 that are taken will be from the tribes of Israel.

7:4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

And not only that, but those who are taken will be virgin males.

14:3 ...and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.
14:4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins...

If they believe in the literal interpretation of the Bible what makes them think they will be taken?

3. I hadn't realized there was a limited number.
I get the impression they think all of them are going.

Interestingly, 144 = one "gross".

So a gross of fundies are going. (Okay, a gross dozen.)

5. But the Bible say it will be 12K from each of the tribes of Israel.
That doesn't include the fundies.

13. So they're not even part of the 144,000.
They don't have a snowball's chance in hell of going to heaven in the Rapture? That's funny. Thanks.

6. For one thing, they don't read the Bible like that .....
they believe all the crap their families and preachers have told them since they were kids. If they say those "born again" will be saved eternal damnation, then that's what they believe will happen. There are some sick puppies out there.

7. it's related to Calvin's "elect" (which of course they all must be a part
of), and the New Morality: good and evil is irrelevant; it is the saved and unsaved. That is what makes fundamentalism so dangerous: it replaces morality with club membership; all is forgiven, no matter what you do.

banished to living in a cave on a deserted island?

16. it's hubris
they assume because of their religion they have a "free pass", that they are the only ones "worthy"

this sounds alot like "PRIDE" -- which, I believe, is a sin -- so it looks to me that they have disqualified themselves

17. If only the rapture had happened in Ohio
on November 1st. Take away 144,000 freep RW nutjobs and Kerry would have carried the state comfartably.

(of course my statement works on the assumption that the votes were actually counted not just a pre set computer tally.)
