Assholes trying to force Creationism into K.C. schools
Yes, I live in Jesusland, MO. The local school board had a meeting attended by over 200 people last night, arguing over the teaching of evolution versus creationism. Some want NO evolution taught, only creationism, others want BOTH taught, as if creationism were an actual science. (piffle)

I thought we'd advanced slightly since the famous monkey trials, but apparently not. When you have a monkey in the white house, what can you expect?

Why do they fear scientific evidence and anthropology so much? Why do the wackos want to CRAM CREATIONISM DOWN OUR CHILDREN'S THROATS?

Jeeezus!

2. Americas greatest enemy is Christian Fundamentalism.
The theo-cons are actively working to create a theocratic government much like the Taliban was in Afghanistan. Make no mistake, these people are EVIL. They will push us back into the dark ages if we allow it.

4. Becuse,
They cannot control science. Religion, no problem, they can control that and use it to control others. Science itself scares them.

5. Who Would Even Notice in the Smoking Remains of a KC School?
The schools were *bad* when I was a student in them (class of '82, woo-hoo); I'm surprised they're even still attempting to teach science in them. Might bring down the test scores, you know.

Is the school board still taking their planning cruises in the Bahamas?

10. KC School Board Epitomizes Corruption
Pendergast is dead and the Machine dismantled, but there's plenty of corruption in KC politics. Flush Creek anyone?

6. Gosh, I think overloading the whole system
by a demand that every creation myth in any religion known to man be given extra billing in the curricula would be a handy dandy way of emphasizing the ridiculousness of this jihad. I don't understand why other faiths don't demand equal billing in the public square and overload the courts so they really have to deal with separation of church and state realistically. Church is not defined as Christian church, to the best of my knowledge, nor is religion defined as a Christian denomination of any stripe. Well, how about a Hindu creation myth being treated as something other than an interesting folklore tale from comparative literature? What's wrong with using this as an approach?

8. the earth sits on a giant turtle's back, everyone knows that
good point, which creation story? there are hundreds, all of which are just as unscientific as the other. I think science itself is their problem, because it contradicts their mythology so strongly.

11. I think that is partly what they want.
They want to sneak creationism in and force us to push for all religions creation myths. All of these taught with evolution will overwhelm the children and the will gravitate towards what they know (Creationism).

It is all an attempt to marginalize science to the point that people feel that it no longer matters.

9. It is bad
But remember that our constitution does not allow for a state sponsored religion. Their theocracy will never happen unless we void the constitution and opt for a dictatorship.

12. Yea
Unfortunately, I could see a supreme court of Scalia clones abrogating their responsibility on that by saying the 14th ammendment should only be applied to the Feds, not the states.

Although many state constitutions prohibit religious issues as well, judges (at least in my state) are elected.

13. the 'states rights' loophole
if the southern states want to fly the confederate flag over their capital buildings, 'states rights' give it the go ahead.

if mississippi wants to abolish science in schools, an obscene thought, 'states rights'.

it's all bullshit to clear the road for a christian conservative takeover of our nation.

14. Simply put, Americans philosophical views have retrogressed
by about 400 years. Why this has happened remains a mystery to me.
We are plunging back toward a new form of Inquisition, which , overall, may be as bad or worse than the on that last 800 years and stifled all intellectual progress for almost a millennium.

I'm seriously beginning to wonder if perhaps there is some environmental problem in the U.S. that is damaging American's brains, i.e. aluminum, lead, etc. For whatever the reason/reasons, we are getting dumber fast.

15. The dark ages again
Here we go again. And some think history does not repeat itself.

Anyone taking bets on when the steam engine will be invented for the third time?
