4 those who blast Ward Churchill, here's what former CIA "Anonymous" said
This excerpt is from an article I just read at the Center For Defense Information, an organization consisting of mostly SENIOR retired US military officers. While the rhetoric of "anonymous" and Churchill vary, the crux of their reasoning is very similar.

Finally, Barnett's analysis falls into the trap of thinking that terrorists in the Gap attack the West for what it is and what it thinks. However, as demonstrated in the book Imperial Hubris: Why the West Is Losing the War on Terror by Anonymous (a twenty-three-year CIA veteran), America is hated and attacked for what it does-that is, the policies it pursues that impact the Islamic world, such as its support for apostate, corrupt, and tyrannical Muslim governments. He notes that "the Islamic World is not so offended by our democratic system of politics, guaranties of personal rights and civil liberties, and separation of church and state that it is willing to wage war against overwhelming odds to stop America from voting, speaking freely, and praying or not, as they wish."

1. I'm little skeptical about this.
Let's make some substitutions.

... the trap of thinking that Republicans attack secular humanist liberals for what they are and what they think. However, secular humanist liberals are hated and attacked for what they do-that is, for exaple for their opposition to apostate, corrupt, and tyrannical Muslim governments.

I'm not persuaded that al Qaeda has better motives than Republicans do. Nor different motives, for that matter, when differences of culture and history are corrected for.

2. It's all summed up in the CIA's least favorite word - BLOWBACK.
Blowback is the bottom line to Churchill's essay as well as almost every honest book about the CIA.
