ANOTHER insult to Holocaust Victims...this one by condi rice...(PHOTO)
as a Diplomat, condi is a complete FAILURE....someone should tell her that HER OWN NAME is not what one honors on a Memorial Wreath to the Holocaust Victims....how very insulting....disguisting....

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice lays a wreath in front of the Eternal Fire, inside the Hall of Remembrance, at Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial, in Jerusalem Sunday Feb. 6, 2005. Rice arrived in the region Sunday for separate talks with Israeli and Palestinian leaders, who will sit down together in the upcoming Mideast summit in Egypt. (AP Photo/Brennan Linsley)

1. Oh, jeebers, is that tacky!
It looks like a big Valentine thingy. The Holocaust survivors must feel ever so honored to see that Valentine from Condor Lizard, and it's especially cool that it has her name on it. Where did these morAns go to diplomat school, anyhow?

10. Is the ** Administration going out of it's way to insult Europe???
Because it really looks that way to me. I haven't figured out how to put up my own photos yet :dunce:; but I saw a picture of Crashcart wearing a green ski jacket and a hunting cap at this same ceremony - dressed like an 8 year child on vacation in the midst a very formal, sombre, international ceremony. He was properly attired for the Coronation, so I know he owns appropriate clothing. The picture was in Newsweek - even the whore media called him out on the faux pas.

Just when I think that **Inc. can't make us look any worse to the International community.

67. I have no idea if having her name on that wreath is correct -
(but I do think that wreath was highly tasteless - these ribbons are probably blue :( )

What really got to me was the picture of her seal. I did some googling - ALL the pictures show the seal with "United States". So this is something new. To me it shouts: "I'm the Secretary of State - of ALL THE WORLD! There is only one!" Bush's seal will probably next.

I'm German, and this really offends me.

69. We the people paid
The flowers were probably purchased from a contractor that does that stuff on a regular basis. The bill would be paid by the consulate or embassy doing the advance work for her visit. It would either come out of operating funds, or the people in country would request a supplemental to their budget to cover the costs associated with the visit.

At the end of the day, it's us chickens what chipped in for the posies, to say nothing of all of the operating expenses (gas, food, security, support personnel, hotels, aircraft landing fees, maintenance, hard car vehicles, and so on and so on) for this little junket! It's a hefty chunk of change...

53. Perhaps a little more research is required
"Visitors can bring live flowers although the Orthodox custom, which many other Jewish people also do, is to put stones on the grave instead. Putting a pebble on the grave is an expression of someone having visited to pay respect for the deceased person." Jewish Funeral and Mourning Customs Although flowers are now more common, the traditional sign of respect for the dead is a stone/pebble. It is not to say that flowers will not adorn a grave or memorial, even from some Jews, but tradition is in fact a stone. Check out the extras in Schindler's List and watch the Jews (and others) who go to the site of his and his wife's grave and watch as each places a small stone.

but then there was that awful image of Cheney...

Do you think your query, or YVM's response, clearly cut off the possibility of hair splitting between the wreath and the ribbon bearing message so as to prevent conversation about them as 2 distinct entities?

54. The image of Cheney did strike me as odd
but maybe there is more to the story than we know.

And yes it's possible that the wreath and 'ribbon bearing message'
are different entities but no one in this thread has shown any proof that the wreath or ribbon are out of place.

One person even went as far as saying that it should have been a rock that she left at the memorial.

"It is tradional to place a stone on a memorial site- These people really don't know their protocol."

How silly that would have been.

Edited on Mon Feb-07-05 06:56 PM by DETERMINEDPROGRESIVE
I agree 100% that the wreath followed correct protocol, and that their answer to your query is accurate.

I do think the question required more specificity, however, as there is still a likely chance that the ribbon itself was not in fact following protocol.

On Edit to Follow Up:

I researched google images and found many wreaths. This one seems to be in order, as it seems normal to put either the name of the organization sponsoring the wreath or the name of the person. Here is just one sample. It says international Christian somethin or other.

66. A wreath ok but do they usually put their NAME on it. I cannot imagine
going to a funeral for, say a friends passed mother, and placing a wreath with MY NAME ON IT. Tacky and distasteful.

58. You are not correct
I attended the state showing for the death of the Queen Mother of Thailand, all of the official wreaths from world leaders had the names of who sent them in this same fashion.

59. Condi didn't order that wreath, get real , someone else did
Granted, Condi has said some very destructive things on her little tour, but she did not order that wreath. People like that have assistants and handlers that take care of such things. My God, do you think Condi even knew there would be a wreath more than five minutes before she arrived?

Whoever was in charge of researching what is appropriate and expected passed that info on to some clerk who placed the order.

And as far as the speeches, they write them for her. I highly doubt she writes any of her own speeches.

70. WTF kind of narcisissim is this? The SOS represents the USA...
as a diplomat, not **herself**.

To those who say she's blameless, as she probably didn't order the flowers -- well, then, as Secretary of State, she should have had the fu**ing horse sense to pull that "me, myself and I" ribbon off the wreath.

This is utterly classless, and is a clear signal that she's clueless and out of touch with the world.
