Man from Glen Ridge rape case(89 "Our Guys") kills self in bloodbath

A Special Forces soldier indicted in an infamous 1989 New Jersey rape case killed himself after wounding his estranged wife and her boyfriend, police said.

Spc. Richard Timothy Corcoran, 34, entered Michele A. Corcoran’s house Thursday night and shot William Paul Seifert, 35, of Raeford, several times. Corcoran’s 30-year-old wife ran outside, where she was shot in the arm, said Maj. Sam Pennica of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department.

Corcoran then went back inside the house and shot himself, Pennica said.

Seifert, who is also a Fort Bragg soldier, was treated at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Michele Corcoran was treated and released. The Corcorans’ 7-month-old baby was in the house but was not hurt.

Corcoran was involved in a nationally-publicized 1989 case in Glen Ridge, N.J., in which a group of high school football players allegedly raped a mentally retarded teenage girl with a broom and a baseball bat.

the world would have been a better place. Its pretty sad that if he would have had a bag of weed or been spreading anti-Bush rhetoric he would be rotting in jail.

2. I find it disturbing that this guy was Special Forces

Actually, from two angles: first, why would we let a guy like this into the Special Forces if not for the fact that he was capable of some heinous stuff? Or, if Special Forces guys are an okay bunch, it's yet another in quite a string of rather violent suicides and murders committed by current or former military personnel (ex: the guy who killed Dimebag and several others, self, was in military but expelled). Maybe they're just not taking good enough care of their people.

I'm so glad his intended victims survived.

3. His rank is wrong for the Special Forces ...

...typically they are Sergeants or above. The Specialist rank may be for a Special Forces Unit in a supporting role - administration, clerk, etc., but dollars to donut holes he was not a Team member OR he had been busted back from a higher rank.

I wonder if she knew about his past when she married him. How does one conssciously marry a rapist, and especially once involved in such a horrific case.
