Hey, remember when they announced an office of disinformation?
And the first thing they did after that was announce that they really weren't going to do disinformation?

Was that under TIA? What was that?

1. Office of Strategic Influence

Course he started it back up again, quietly.

2. I doubt it ever went away...

... even briefly. After all, it was Rumsfeld who said something to the effect of "Well, you don't like it, we'll just get rid of it." That was no more truthful than anything that's come out of his mouth in his public life.

Have I mentioned today how much I loathe these people? :)

Edit for syntax.

3. Classic Rummy quote about the OSI "closing"
http://www.defenselink.mil/transcripts/2002/t11212002_t1118sd2.html">Rumsfeld Media Availability on November 18, 2002

And then there was the office of strategic influence. You may recall that. And "oh my goodness gracious isn't that terrible, Henny Penny the sky is going to fall." I went down that next day and said fine, if you want to savage this thing fine I'll give you the corpse. There's the name. You can have the name, but I'm gonna keep doing every single thing that needs to be done and I have.

That was intended to be done by that office is being done by that office, NOT by that office in other ways.

What an arrogant shithead.

4. and, as noted on the Pentagon Channel thread, he not only is
continuing to do the disinformation but is spreading it onto media in the United States.

5. I always figured that was the primary target
The Bush administration doesn't seem to give a rat's ass what the rest of the world thinks. Although I suspect they feel the same about us now, they did have an election looming that year (2002) and a product to market (Iraq version 2.0).

7. The rest of the world is probably...
... better informed about what we're doing around the world than we are--that's always been case--but, in large part because of the internet we're more aware of that disparity in information.

If the American public knew even a tenth of a percent of what's locked up in classified safes in the government, they'd simply not believe it. Couldn't handle it.

Cheers.

8. It doesn't have to be locked up
The PNAC web site is available to anyone with access to the internet, but I have had friends refuse to acknowledge the existence of PNAC even when I gave them the web address.

PNAC isn't a smoking gun, it's a confession. But in the court of American public opinion it isn't allowed as evidence (thanks, Fox News and friends).

6. Yes, which is why I brought up the subject
Since we have the NakedGayConservativeMaleProstituteintheWhiteHouse Scandal going on, it just got me thinking, back to the old days, just post 9/11, when we began to understand what we were dealing with.

10. I'm asking, is Guckert part of an official disinfo campaign?
What do you think? Maybe this goes beyond Rove.
