NPR on John Negroponte.....Does anyone still give them money?
I can see how Faux, NBC, CBS, etc etc may not remind the American public just how littered with scandal and human rights abuses this man's career is, but today on NPR they were talking about him. the host of Talk of the Nation and their Washington bureau chief couldn't give this guy more kudos if they tried. I couldn't believe the laudatory nature of their conversation without ONE SINGLE MENTION about the horrors this guy foisted onto citizens of Latin America. They briefly mentioned that he may encounter some stiff questioning about his work during the eighties but....and get this, they actually said this...."This is what happens when you are on the frontlines when you have served our country in this part of the world"

I am absolutely shocked and furious. This is the very last straw for NPR in my book. I have been listening to their slide into journalistic laziness and passively trumpeting this administrations spin for too long. No more.

Anyone that still gives them money is a fool. Let their corporate sponsors take over and run the show, instead of begging me for money and then representing the corporate/administration point of view.

1. I heard their bit on him last year...
And that was when I really realized that they aren't as 'in-depth' as they profess, not at all. I still listen, but I do a lot of my own other research online, on my own.

3. This was almost faux-newsish today...
To hear them tell it, this guy is the greatest career diplomat to hit Washington and the fact that the President trusts him, well...that's just what this country needs right now.

It was sick.

2. it's embarrassing
they are making this guy out to be some kind of perfect being out of mythology.

the creepy Mort Zuckerman of US News was on one of the cable channels just piling hyperboles on top of each other in praise of him.

And whatever they do, they don't go anywhere near Honduras, except to call it a "tough assignment."

7. A tough assignemnt like POLAND was a tough assignment for HANS FRANK!
How many Liberal Poles to kill first? How to keep the others from rising? How to ensure that a Nazi-favorable government is dominant?

8. Not only do I not give them money,...
...but during their begathons I call and tell them WHY I won't.

That was my wife's idea, my Wonder Woman with knitting needles! :loveya:

9. Let Wal-Mart support them!
As soon as I heard that Wal-Mart was a corporate sponsor, I knew it was all over. Their decline began long before that, though.

They began censoring themselves and going easy on the Administration after 9/11, and they haven't stopped since.

10. Stopped in 2000 when their bias became blatant.
Broke my heart. Still looking for serious unbiased news on the radio. Now I have to grab mp3s and internet streams from all over and put them together myself. Kind of fun, but it takes a lot more effort than just turning on the radio, and most often I don't have the time.
I'll never forgive them for turning.
