Bobby Eberle in his Christmas Greeting on the GOPUSA web site:

In particular, I'd like to thank Terri Hillhouse and the entire GOPUSA team for their drive, dedication, and support. I'd also like to send a special thank you to all those who personally provided me with their assistance, guidance, and friendship, including Kathleen Eberle, Bruce Eberle, Mike Hiban, Don Stewart, Paul Teller, Tim Goeglein, Stuart Richens, Matt Smith, Jen Ohman, Bob Johnson, Liz Sheld, Julie Cram, Phillip Stutts, Chuck Muth, Grover Norquist, Karl Rove, and G. 3. Anybody who thanks Norquist for anything is out of his frickin' mind.
That tells me right there that the dirty tricks don't stop with Gannon the Blowhard Cannon.

I wonder if Bobby Eberle has ties to that Club For Growth founder. I can't remember his name. He's a real nutcase.

6. A quick check shows various Club for Growth connections
Here's someone at Daily Kos saying, "I had found the descriptions of the conference in 2002 co-sponsored by GOPUSA, the American Conservative Union, and the Club For Growth."
http://harry-s.dailykos.com/story/2005/2/13/22235/3796

And here's something, also from 2002, saying, "The Institute for Policy Innovation (IPI) is pleased to announce that Stephen Moore, President of The Club for Growth has joined the Institute as a Senior Research Fellow with the IPI Center for Economic Growth." And the RSVP's for the cocktail party are to go to Kerri Houston, who's also on the board of GOPUSA.

Is Stephen Moore the guy you were thinking of?

And what's the Institute for Policy Innovation? Sounds nasty.

Kerri Houston seems to be the connecting factor. She's been with the American Conservative Union and is also a vice-president with the anti-environmental Frontiers of Freedom.

7. Tim Goglein is Rove's emissary to the religious right
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A23206-2004Dec23.html

It is Goeglein's job to make sure conservatives are happy, in the loop and getting their best ideas before the president and turned into laws. With Goeglein's assistance, Christian conservatives, for instance, were successful in lobbying Bush to push for abstinence-first funding to combat AIDs and speak out against the persecution of Christians in Sudan, according to Charles W. Colson, an evangelical Christian who works closely with Bush and Goeglein.

Conservative Pastor: We Have Direct Access to White House. "Like many pastors, the Rev. Ted Haggard has a packed schedule, including four worship services on Sunday, counseling sessions with church members, and radio commercials promoting the Scriptures. But in his Palm Pilot, next to an electronic copy of the Bible, Mr. Haggard has one Monday appointment that stands out: '3 p.m.: White House.' It's a weekly conference call Mr. Haggard dials into that's led by Tim Goeglein, the White House's liaison to the conservative community, and includes prominent religious leaders. 'We have direct access,' says Mr. Haggard, senior pastor of the giant New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colo. 'I can call , he'll take my concern to the president and get back to me in 24 hours.'"

Goeglein Attends Strategy Meetings With Rove, Norquist and Fellow Conservatives. According to the Washington Times, a "typical day" for Mr. Goeglein is made up of morning meetings with Karl Rove. On Wednesdays Goeglein meets with fellow conservatives for a "midmorning colloquy" led by Grover Norquist. "Members of Congress and the administration show up, but Mr. Goeglein is a regular."

9. Eberle and Rove arranged for the propaganda operative: Gannon
GOPUSA is essentially an extension of the Repuke official party and Rove helped to create it. There are some legal lines being crossed here as well as with the paid propaganda operative (Gannon).

Appropriate charges should be brought against Rove!

Does anyone know what charges they could bring for Rove coordinating with this private entity other than the propaganda charge? (I do know that it is illegal for 527s to coordinate with party officials).

10. Julie Cram was with the Bush campaign
"Julie Cram, deputy communications director for Bush-Cheney 2004, has joined Burson-Marsteller, as a director in its public affairs practice."

http://www.talkaboutgovernment.com/group/alt.politics.bush/messages/2769906.html

"For the past four years, Cram has worked closely with the Bush Administration in a variety of strategic communications positions. Most recently, she worked for Bush-Cheney ‘04 as the Deputy Communications Director for National Surrogate Media; with the Republican National Committee as the Director of Communications for Victory 2004; and as Director of Surrogate Media Operations for the Republican National Convention."

Anybody care to explain what "surrogate media" means? I hope it isn't what I think it is.

11. Surrogate Media -- it's as bad as it sounds
http://blogs.salon.com/0002042/2004/08/21.html

August 21, 2004

Today’s political lesson comes from the world of animal recognition and anatomy: If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck and looks like a duck, it’s a duck.

There. That wasn’t so hard, was it? Now enough about these “swift boat veterans for truth (SBVFT)” not being created, funded, encouraged and used by Karl Rove and the Bush campaign to smear the good name of John Kerry. They were and they are.

<snip>

And just look at how the SBVFT issues and ads have been played by the Bush Surrogate media. The book (at 256 pages, a pamphlet, really) – now shown to be rife with inaccuracies and lies – was teased for two weeks on Drudge, who is always willing to spin out the most far-fetched aspects of the Rovian oeuvre (lately headlining a Kerry haircut and a supposed squabble between Kerry and Teresa). The Bush Media Surrogates kicked in the week before the pamphlet’s release, with “exclusive” interviews with “co-author” O’Neill (the other author and other Swifties banished to the background, for obvious reasons). When the SBVFT “ads” were released, the Bushies had to put very few actually on the air – they got much more play for free on Fox, MSNBC and the thousands of radio outlets that subscribe to the Rove daily e-mail.

In other words, the Bush Surrogates conducted a concerted and remarkably coordinated campaign to make sure everyone heard about the Swifties’ trumped-up and relatively minor allegations against Kerry – at worst, he appears to be charged with puffery – at a time when he had just made his most effective personal impact at the convention.
