Mainstream media REFUSES to ask Bush about new "tapes" scandal
Edited on Mon Feb-21-05 06:16 PM by Lone_Star_Dem
"A friend in the White House press corps just let me know that in President Bush's first press availability since the secretly-recorded tapes were revealed, and his first press availability since arriving in Europe, the White House press corps failed to ask the president even a single question about the tapes today. Zero. These are the tapes that appear to indicate that Bush doesn't agree with the religious right on gay issues, and that he has smoked pot. How could they NOT ask him a question about this rather big story right now? (Let alone, where's the question about GannonGuckertGate?)

Perhaps Jeff Gannon isn't the only whore covering the White House."

I guess this one could die out pretty fast. You'd think the press would want to ask Bush about these tapes, but you'd think they'd want to ask him about Gannon/Guckert, too. I guess everything is off limits in this Administration. Even when you have it on tape.

Edit: clarity

2. There is one train of thought that these were "planted" anyway, so maybe

it is just as well. Let's hear ALL the tapes, instead of a selected, cleaned up excerpt. As was posted somewhere else here earlier, Bush was known to have a very colorful way of speaking and to have such an extended excerpt with no "bleeps" would be highly unusual unless it was planned or cleaned up in advance. In either case, it may be no more "authentic", than the documents that cost Rather his job.
As was said, no one in the Bush camp releases anything without their knowledge and permission. This was done with their full knowledge and cooperation. This is why Bush is in Europe ....Gee, why wasn't it done while he was in Crawford?
No way this guy would live to do this unless Rove, and the entire BFEE were in on it.

6. I'm of that train of thought
That's why this surprised me. I thought the media would feel obligated to question Bush on this. It doesn't involve the press or bloggers and it's a public interest story. I thought that was why it was released.

8. I think you're right
This is just nonsense with those tapes or they'd be playing EVERYTHING from them. Just to get us away from Gannon.

"before his Christian" days. Not to be cynical but whether Bush smoked pot or not doesn't interest me...everyone knows he was wild as the hills and Laura gave him an ultimatum--me or the Jack Daniels--no, this is really old news.

What I care more about is the fraud in the WH press room and how he got there. I don't want any other to story to trump this one. It's the one going on NOW not 30 years ago.

10. Well, if the Corporate Media refuse to cover real news,
news consumers will, eventually, catch on and tune those networks out. More and more I hear from my friends that they don't trust what the talking heads are saying.

If it weren't for the 1st amendment, we could end up with something like China's system, where any kind of dissent is met by the state closing down the government-critic's speech. I wonder what the average Chinese citizen thinks of their "news"?

If Corporate Media refuses to ask the tough questions that they need to, even with the 1st amendment in place, then how much different are the two systems, anyway?

11. I'm actually beginning to like the fact that the WH press is a brothel

Don't get me wrong. I have gnashed my teeth to nubs for the last four years...I mean they let him get away with mass murder.

However, the media and their questions to el presidente are sort of like a safety valve for voters....journalists ask hard questions and a real president takes the questions and uses the bully pulpit to answer them as best he can....he can be a good salesman and convince people to either support his ideas or if they don't support that particular position, at least say, well I don't buy into everything he's doing, but at least he's telling me why he's doing what he's doing.

With Smirk there is NO GIVE AND TAKE. NO SAFETY VALVE. NO opportunity for him to make his case. He mutters and stumbles and gets softball questions which he answers with trite sound bites that NO ONE listens to.

He has foresaken the bully pulpit to all but his die hard followers handpicked for his ceremonial appearances.

The safety valve is gone. He has given up his role as salesman of his positions.

What are the farmers thinking about with subsidy cuts?

What are people thinking about his dismantling SS?

What are people thinking about IraqNam and the worsening situation?

They want answers. He's not giving them.

I think this is 'good' in that respect

12. I think it just saves bush the trouble of stumbling through an answer
The WH puts out a press release that address the issue and the press talks it up. And little bushie never has to show that he's clueless.
