1. At least we found a compromise!
People can marry whoever they want and have as many children as they want as long as they are responsible and behave that way.

4. "Bleeding the Beast" part of polygamists relig. doctrine, sorta:
It means taking whatever you can get from the evil secular government.

Guy married one woman, has a job & 2-3 kids. Unofficially "marries" several other women, has kids with each, and uses welfare to pay for all the extra familie's expenses.

6. Reminds me of a case in Montana
There is a religious group up there, similar to the Amish, which lives in a communal system. Church members are not allowed personal property, everything is signed over to the church. Recently some have tried to get medicaid and welfare from the state, which turned them down on the basis that their church was rich and should look after them.

8. I heard about this on NPR. The community is rich but the individual people
in it are poor. Should be an interesting case to watch.

10. And it is still being litigated...
Going to be an interesting outcome. The state is trying to take away the social safety net based on belonging to the commune though the women being refused services have no control over the commune assets (its that kind of commune)

13. They can just leave the commune (that appears to be stealing their money)
and they'll have no problem getting their access back to the safety net.

14. Exactly, w4rma. Communes organized like this are to take care
of their members, and if they don't, the members need to leave and/or sue for suppport or return of some communal property.
