My brass Zippo is a weapon
tried to fly today, and had to end up sending my zippo home in the mail. (fedEX since the post office wouldnt take it).

It was nice to see that the three 1911 .45 ACP pistols that I checked as luggage made it here fine though.

Just wondering when the absolute stupidity of the "new" security is going to end.

Guy gets loose in the courthouse, and if the guards were carrying truncheons rather than guns maybe 4 people would still be alive.

1. Lucky you.. When my husband had nail clippers confiscated in Tahiti
Edited on Tue Mar-15-05 02:21 AM by SoCalDem
there was no way for us to mail them ahead.. It really upset him.. They had been his mother's from when she was a beautician. It was part of a set of hers that he had kept..He forgot they were in his dopp kit. They were made circa 1935 ..very durable and the design I have never seen .. Solingen, I think:(

I don't know why they don't just give you a claim ticket and put all that stuff in a box, so you can claim it as you de-plane.. That would make much more sense.:)

4. How'd you check guns?
In your checked baggage? You didn't bring them on with carry-on, did you?

7. checked as luggage ---didnt carry on
mailed the zippo with a couple of unloaded magazines so if they X-rayed it it looks like a big pile of metal parts.

But I do remember a while back about the Cop who was able to carry his weapon on board with him, but the screener made him leave his fingernail clippers behind because they could "be used as a weapon".

Its like the wizard of OZ---pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. I will leave the clippers as long as I get to keep the .38

Maybe the UN weapons inspectors are looking in the wrong place, and the majority of WMD are in the Baghdad Wallgreens.

8. Last time I flew, they got my little scissors in my shaving kit, but...
Edited on Tue Mar-15-05 03:06 AM by IMModerate
they didn't see the Swiss Army Knife I forgot I had on my key chain.

One time they got me for having two BIC lighters. They said I could have one, but not two. I asked what I could do with two of them, that I couldn't do with one of them, and they said, "That's the rules."

I asked if I could see the rules and they told me, "That's confidential."

Gives you lots of confidence in the system, right. Stop giggling, Osama!

3. Absurd, isn't it?
They've even banned people from carrying a brand-new, unfuelled Zippo on a plane...which seems a bit silly. And you can still take matches...not logical.

6. Yep, no lighters--but MATCHES are still OK!!!
They're idiots, absolute IDIOTS! I find the whole flying/screening thing an affront to intelligence, and I swear, political in nature as well--just ask me, or Ted Kennedy!

9. The Key To The Zippo/Matches Discrepancy
We have metal detectors. We DON'T have anything that can pick up matches. Ergo.

It's image versus substance.

Those of us who work in an airport's "secure" (*giggle*) area are now being told we can be FINED for carrying prohibited items; we're considered "knowledgeable personnel" so if I bring a metal fork out in the break room, they'll burn my ass--although there's really not a damn thing I can do with it, if those reinforced cockpit doors are closed. And I work with equipment with which I could commit MUCH more mayhem than I ever could with a damn fork.

The recent announcement of this policy came with this: "the individual's ATTITUDE will be a factor in the assessment of fines." Translation: don't sass the stormtroopers, Thought Criminal.
