Marines snub UAW olive branch
The United Auto Workers union waved a white flag Monday in its parking skirmish with neighboring reservists, but the 1st Battalion, 24th Marines are not accepting surrender.

Facing intense criticism, UAW President Ron Gettelfinger reversed his decision to ban Marine Corps reservists driving foreign cars or displaying pro-President Bush bumper stickers from parking at the union's Solidarity House headquarters in Detroit.

"I made the wrong call on the parking issue, and I have notified the Marine Corps that all reservists are welcome to park at Solidarity House as they have for the past 10 years," Gettelfinger said in a statement.

Wounded by what they consider an unpatriotic ambush, the Marines rejected the union's olive branch and secured an alternative parking lot.

3. Absolutely...
Serving your country doesn't give you a free pass to screw other people. Like every other American, I'm grateful to our veterans and oppose cutting their benefits. But my gratitude ends when they start actively working against the best interest of my country.

2. Dear marines; If you can't behave properly as a guest, then screw you.
"Support the soliders" does not mean "let them do any damn thing they want to".

Get over it and grow the fuck up.

4. the union attitude is bs.
my bro-in-law is a union sheetrocker who drives a 15 yr old volvo. some of the guys on the job were giving him shit about parking it on the job. meanwhile they use screw guns made in china, fork lifts and man lifts made in japan and drywall made in canada. some of the guys on the job don't speak english and are here (assumingly) on visas. meanwhile the chevy trucks in the lot are mostly built in canada and they work on jobs financed by foreign corporations.

wh'ver. more hypocrisy.

5. Not only that, but I think it's kind of telling that the UAW
feels so threatened by foreign cars. The anti-Bush stickers I can get behind.

6. they should ask what happens when a reservist has a kerry/edwards
sticker on their car, and parks on the base.
