Yep. Wrong corner. Again.

Iraq insurgency has worsened: US intelligence

Though US President George W Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice have been giving the impression that the insurgency situation in Iraq is improving, the American Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), which monitors the situation daily, says it has worsened.

"The insurgency in Iraq has grown in size and complexity over the past year. Attacks numbered approximately 25 per day one year ago," DIA Director Vice Admiral Lowell Jacoby told the Senate Armed Services Committee in Washington.

-snip

The pattern of attacks, he said, remains the same as last year. Approximately 80 per cent of all attacks occur in Sunni-dominated central Iraq.

The vice admiral also pointed out that multiple polls show favourable ratings for the US in the Muslim world "at all-time lows."

6. He turned a corner, and found himself in a tunnel
The next message of cheer we'll hear is that there is a LIGHT at the end of that tunnel!!!

What the hell, they keep dusting off all of those old Vietnam excuses (Iraqization/Vietnamization, turning the corner, light at the end of the tunnel, making progress, beating back the Cong/insurgents...). It's really the same shit, different war.

Remember how long it took us to recover from Vietnam? Those awful Nixon years? Ford, and his pathetic WHIP INFLATION NOW (WIN) buttons? Jimmy Carter's "stagflation?" The brutal Reagan economic policies--catsup as a vegetable, indeed.

War makes some 'connected' people rich, but it devastates countries. It tears people apart. Here we go again!

How long will it take this time? Will we ever recover?

Sometimes I don't know if we'll live long enough to see the well-deserved demise of this regime.

that the "fire of war" will kill those who oppose the U.S. occupation and give hope to U.S. oil interests...but then that would look so "tacky" in the NYTimes...:eyes:

19. Oh boy, a toughie; lemme think..."there is no doubt"; "I never said I
didn't care about OBL"; "Want wood?"; "And I continued to fly with my unit for several more years"; "I've been to war..."...

versus the DIA who were correct in every dissenting opinion they gave against bush's bullshit in the October 2002 NIE.

Hmmm...*scratch*...I think I'm gonna go for...ummm...no, wait...yep I'm gonna go for "those crazies at the DIA", madeline!

*crowd cheers wildly*

21. you know what the worst part of this is--
Most people simply do, not, care. There is nobody out there now, whipping them into a frenzy of moral-self-righteousness or super-patriotism. They are going about their lives just fine, thanks. The election's over, after all. Go to the movies. Go to the mall. Watch junk on TV. Order a pizza. The president will handle it. They think they voted for the strong guy. The right guy. God's guy. They've done their part: they voted for Bush, and they bought a nice little yellow "Support Our Troops" magnet for the back of their SUV, so they can show all their neighbors in the parking lot of Walmart what great Americans they are.

:puke:
