Just goes to show you neither side cares about life.
To see how callous people are that they wouldn't want to hope for someone to live and actually make sick jokes just shows how uncaring people are on both sides.

1. I care about the rights of self determination and privacy
Not the LIFE AT ALL COSTS hysteria in defiance of the rights of the individual.

5. Well
I hope you don't have any bodies buried in your private home.
What a ridiculous statement---
The rights of everyone are important--- and so is life --

We need to give the government the power to maintain social order so selfish morons who think they have a right to say a family member should have her life taken because it is too troublesome will not be able to.

8. I see you place no value on the right of the individual to decide
whether or not to be zombified on life support, nor do you support the right of the individual to appoint someone as their legal guardian in the event they are incapacitated.

We just all need to live out our lives on machinery because that's what YOU want from us.

19. Does personal choice not matter?
She said she didn't want to live like this. This should take precidence over what a family member wants. It has nothing to do with having "her life taken because it is too troublesome" and saying it does is very disrespectful to Terri.

3. I want everyone to live!
Even the dead ones. Especially the dead ones. They're really the most neglected, neh? Dig a hole, throw 'em in, never touch 'em again. How fucking cruel. After all, no one can really say what they're experiencing, can they? Has anyone here ever died? Huh?

But, of course, I digress. We treat animals with more respect. We eat 'em.

4. Is that what you call living??
My mother 'lived' like Terri for two years. What experience do YOU have with someone in a PVS that you feel you can preach to others about 'hoping for life'? THERE IS NO HOPE OF LIFE (in this world) FOR TERRI.

10. The selfish people are the ghouls keeping that poor woman in a state
of suspended death like a zombie.

She's gone and keeping her body going like a cut flower in a vase isn't kind.

24. Thanks, missb
I didn't share it to get sympathy, it happened a long time ago. But I appreciate your kindness. :) And I'm thankful to you for amplifying my point: no one who hasn't had to watch a loved one 'live' in Terri's condition should be preaching about the 'hope of life'.

Vinnie is full of something, and it ain't empathy.

9. this is what you bring it to
"that they wouldn't want to hope for someone to live"

i imagine about everyone would like to hope, but there is also reality. because you refuse to see the reality, because you want the illusional hope, you call people callous.

uncaring

i hoped hundreds of thousands didnt die in iraq. that didnt happen. i hope hundreds of thousands more wont die from uranium, i hope, but the reality of it is i will probably not get what i hope for

yet in good conscious, because people can see the reality of terri's injuries that we are callous

vinnie, this is about as sad as it gets, your post

20. If there is a party
that is for people who are not robotically on one side or the other but for people who have common sense and a mind of their own that's one I would join. So I guess I am outside the spectrum.

And so do the other selfish fiends who want to starve and dehydrate a human being because they are sick.
Who is next the homeless?

27. question... not about the current case
what if a relative has a living will (per starvation/dehydration efforts) and asked you to sign an acknowledgement of their wishes in an effort to prevent his/her life being prolonged under these circumstances? Would you sign it? I was asked to do so, and as much as it was hard to do (the image of said starvation/dehydration) was very hard, but I did so.

I know there is controversy per ms. Schaivo's sentiments - and thus I haven't taken sides on the situation. I find it very complicated and very tragic on all sides.

21. Let me give you a worst case scenario and you tell me if you would
Edited on Sun Mar-20-05 02:34 AM by Quixote1818
want to live that way? I once watched a twilight zone that was based on a true story where their was this soldier who had his legs and arms blown off and his face blown off. He was blind, deaf could not taste and could not move, could not smell. His mind was totally their though. He did have one stub of an arm that he could move. The politicians were fighting to keep him alive and his loved ones wanted to let him die. Now just imagine, all he could do is stare into blackness and not relate to anyone in ANY way! Can you imagine the dark, depressed, hopeless thoughts he would have day after day, night after night, year after year?

The episode ended when someone determined he could use his stub to do morris code. Everyone sat and watched with great interest as to what he would say. Guess what he typed out over and over?

KILL ME, KILL ME, KILL ME, KILL ME, KILL ME, KILL ME!!!!!!!!!

So I suppose you would keep him alive?
