Cadillac Escalades not big enough for suburban soccer moms...
OK, this is from a local (left) publication, I'm not copying it verbatim since it's too long, but here's the cliff notes:

BTW: It's kinda sad, but made me laugh.

Mrs. Hillerman from Chesterfield had recently decided her 2003 Cadillac Escalade was not enough car for her. "It just didn't have enough cargo room, and I didn't feel safe enough in it" she says. She decided to go to a Kenworth dealer and get a new top-of-the-line T2000 diesel truck. These are the kind of trucks that you would normally see hauling loads cross-country on our interstate highways, but recently, suburban women have been selling off their "smaller" SUV's and buying these behemoths to make trips to the mall.

"There's so much more you can do with these big trucks that you can't with any SUV" according to Hillerman. She has the optional sleeper cab in hers, and went out and bought a 53' trailer for it, and decorated the inside of the trailer like a huge living room complete with leather couches, a 60" TV with home theatre, a refridgerator, and a custom paint job. "I can haul groceries, lumber from Lowe's, and 15 people in the trailer if i want to, something I couldn't do in the Escalade." However, owning a semi-truck does come with some drawbacks, Hillerman had to obtain a CDL, or commercial driver's license before she could even drive the truck legally on the highways. Other drawbacks she noted were that it's impossible to get through the drive through at McDonald's now, forcing her to go inside the restaurant to get food there. She also said that her neighbors have complained about her truck being an eyesore parked out in the street of her upscale subdivision.

She says the pros of safety & protection in a collision, cargo capacity, and the fact that the truck uses diesel and has a longer cruising range outweigh the cons of her purchase.

Anyway, I don't feel like typing much more, but those were the highlights of the article. This is what this woman purchased.

How ridiculous can these suburbanites be? I'd be willing to bet the trailer of this damn thing is plastered in "W" stickers.

1. C'mon. This is a joke, right? This publication can't be serious.
Please. Tell me it's a joke.

2. From what I gather, it's not.
Not too long back, I even heard 2 women working out on elipticals talking about getting trucks like these. Yes, they were even your stereotypical 5 foot 1 and 90 pound women who are so small that they have no business driving something like that.

13. Uh, not unless they're hauling freight across country
I mean, you DID mean to say that, right?

Lots of women JUST THAT SIZE are forming teams with their hubbies and hauling your groceries across the country so you can eat.

However, suburban idiots have no reason to own those things, no matter what their sex, height, or weight.

To pick on them because they're WOMEN on this forum is incredibly disheartening to the female 50% of DU.

6. No kidding
It doesn't list the price of these things on the website, but I'd guess one of those trucks might cost about $120,000. Does anyone know what they cost exactly?

8. It's expensive
Semis cost usually 90,000 to 120,000 and trailers run in the neighborhood of 20,000.

20. I wouldn't even be able to drive it in my town
I'd have to take the alternate truck route. That would definitely cut down on trips to the grocery store :silly:

Edited on Sun Mar-20-05 11:51 AM by 7th_Sephiroth
i have never seen a mall or wally world (you know she just has to go there daily) with the parking space to accomidate a truck that size short of thier loading docks on edit: watch now as she starts a suburbanite trend, and i'll never be able to see the traffic lights in my lil toyota pickup again cause these will be the new H-2

7. I question the veracity of this publication
I'd like to know where this publication got it's information. It's pretty general other than this one particular woman.

You can cram a lot of people in the cab of this truck, but this particular woman would be breaking the law by doing so. All the passengers would have to be buckled in which is not possible.

It is also illegal to haul people in the back of a 53' trailer.

There's no doubt people do some crazy things, but to say that more suburbanite women are doing this is a bit of a stretch for me to buy unless there is sufficient facts to back this up.

This publication sounds like a spin.

12. It doesn't read true to me, either
it is a nutty lady (and not a trend) - or satire. Then again I couldn't believe the original hummer craze.

9. Yes, and with the optional 'Operation Infinite Justice™' package ...
your T2000 comes fully armored to withstand most conventional anti-tank rounds and includes dual roof mounted 5.56MM Gatling guns. Now you can liberate Arabs from their oil and turn a cow into hamburger at 100 yards and still be in perfect comfort, thanks to air-conditioning and comfy leather seats. :eyes:

Fucking hell, why would someone need something like that? Why would she buy a semi to haul lumber. Why not rent one or have it delivered? Does she need to buy enough groceries for the whole neighborhood? If you want to haul people, why not get a van? 'I could do this if I want to . . .' Blah, blah, blah. Yes, she could . . . but would she? Does it even make sense? I just don't understand this lady.

16. Does anyone remember Shaquille O'Neal's diesel?
Back in the 90's when he got big in the NBA he did this and bought a semi. Of course he's 7 foot 2, so that justifies it right? Anyway, he took his and had it all pimped out with a bar, big sound system, and hot tub all in the trailer, and would have parties back there. There was something about it on MTV years back.

17. He's a basketball player, and they're expected to be outrageous.
That wouldn't really strike me as that odd, but some lady from the suburbs saying her escalade isn't big enough and buying a semi is out of this world.

10. This seems like obvious PR from the truck company.
I don't think soccer moms will buy it though.

Reminds me of that Puffy Super Bowl commercial about pimping the Diet Pepsi trucks.

If the Bush** economy keeps performing as it has been maybe she plans to live in that thing that she's gone to great lengths to decorate. She'll need it after losing her home in that upscale neighborhood.

15. If she crashes into and kills someone, charge her with murder
The reason people buy vehicles like this is so they can drive crazy and terrorize other drivers and if there's a crash, it's the other dood who will die or be maimed. This gal is a psychopath.

21. Neighbors Need To Check Weight Limits On Local Roads. These Fools
buying semis are probably breaking the law.

Residential roads aren't engineered for these things.

There should at LEAST be a local fee (hefty) for driving these for personal use. They break down road surface much more than an average car or even SUV.

I'm reminded of a Mad-TV sketch about some monster SUV or such, & the Mo Collins character was asked how many people it took to drive/steer the thing.

24. If true, she has more issues than what she drives
Perhaps a better suggestion for her would be to let her domestic help do the errands and shopping for her. The wealthy people I have know, during my lifetime, did not do their own shopping.. (with the exception of Dinah Shore)..

Wealthy folks tend to let their paid employees do the heavy lifting:)

26. Has to be a sarcastic put-on.
In the first place..........well, there isn't any "first place".

There's too much wrong with the things this woman is supposed to have said, including things like hauling "15 people in the trailer" (I don't think so) and the fact that most "upscale subdivision(s}" are in areas where parking anything on the street overnight is not permitted and she sure as hell isn't parking that thing in a garage in an "upscale subdivision". (My sister used to live in a development whose covenants prohibited parking any vehicle, including a regular private passenger car, in your own driveway overnight. No lie.)
