If you know that you would NOT want to be kept alive in Mrs. Shiavo's...
Edited on Wed Mar-30-05 09:28 AM by jg82567
condition, WHY would you insist on her being kept in that state? Why would you assume she or anyone would WANT an existence you consider a fate WORSE THAN DEATH for yourself? (it seems counter-intuitive to me)... and FIGHT to make sure of it... I don't know anyone who would NOT want the feeding tube pulled if it was them, yet they act like they are HELPING Terri Schiavo by insisting SHE be kept alive. Why not show her the same consideration and respect you want for yourself? Even if there is no way to know for sure WHAT SHE wants, why come down on the side of prolonging her like that when you would PREFER death?

Renzi personally relates to Schiavo
By JOANNA DODDER
The Daily Courier

U.S. Rep. Rick Renzi knows all too well what it’s like for Terry Schiavo’s family to deal with her inability to speak or get out of bed for 15 years.

Renzi’s own mother depended on a feeding tube for 17 years because of her multiple sclerosis, and doctors concluded that she was in a vegetative state like they did Terry Schiavo. And like Terry’s parents, Renzi is Catholic and has a strong belief in the right for people to live, no matter what state they are in.

Terry’s parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, want to keep their daughter alive, but her husband, Michael Schiavo, said she told him she wouldn’t want to be kept alive artificially.
..........

While he understands how some people think the federal government shouldn’t trump states’ jurisdiction, “I thought this case was so unique” that a federal judge should review it, Renzi said.

“In any other state, spousal rights certainly would have been reviewed and compared to the parents’ rights,” Renzi said.

The lower court judge’s ruling that caregivers had to remove Terry’s feeding tube after 12 years of court battles was a “death sentence,” Renzi said. They removed the feeding tube on March 18.

Even though more than two-thirds of Americans questioned in more than one poll said it was inappropriate for the federal government to get involved in the case, Renzi said he still would take the same stand.
.......

“Why not divorce her and let her parents care for her?” Renzi said. “I don’t get it.”

(my comment: Maybe he sees her as a person ( not cause or political issue or even balm for loving parents) and he (Michael Schiavo) wants for her what he and MOST of us would want for ourselves)
.............

HOWEVER:

Despite what his family did, Renzi said he wouldn’t want to live for years in that physical condition. He has a “do not resuscitate” clause in his will.

1. Jerry Falwell wants to be like Terri Sciavo, that's who.
click on the link to my blog (under the burning bush) and scroll down to the actual Falwell quote about his wish to be kept alive by artificial means.

It's positively creepy.

2. I SO AGREE!!

I can't count the number of idiots who have said, "oh, I have a living will--but Terri didn't, so there's no way to know what she wanted," or simply, "I wouldn't want that, but I don't know what she'd want."

why the hell DON'T they know what she'd want?
point me to ONE PERSON, ANYWHERE, ANYPLACE, ANYTIME who would WANT to be maintained in a persistent vegetative state, who would want their body with no mind to be kept "alive."

ON EDIT: I TAKE THAT BACK!! poster above proved me wrong! there IS one person who wants to be so maintained--Jerry Falwell! (ha ha, guess those donations the true believers sent in over the years for their own "salvation" are going to go toward keeping his corpse alive!) so of course Terri MUST feel the same way, right?

3. This is why the right wing life-cultists
have tried so hard to confuse this issue. They say she isn't in a Persistant Vegative State, she can respond, she shows pleasure at seeing her family and so forth and so on.

That way they get around it - of course it only works if you believe their claims.

4. What I don't understand is that if you believe so much in God, why
would you fight to keep someone in a 'living hell' instead of praying that God, mercifully take her to heaven? I don't really believe in an afterlife, but would certainly be praying for her soul!
