Wingnut Talking Point du jour
The wingnuts are having a revival of one of their most tried-&-tired talking points: Attacking Dem patriotism.

Today Laura INGRAHAM---- she of the Asa HUTCHINSON affair, crawling bar floors on all fours, and recent religious convert----announced on the IMUS show that her new book is about how "the elites" (meaning Dems) give aid and comfort to the enemy by attacking Shrub, or "the pResident", as she called him.

MSRNC is running promos for Tweety today where G. Gordon LIDDY, that paragon of decency, will expound on the theme of how Dems are giving aid and comfort to the enemy by criticizing Shrub.

Yesterday, a certain Liz TROTTA--- who, when I was a child, worked for a legitimate network as a reporter and appeared to have credibility and a good reputation and was one of the few females on the air----scraped herself off the ceiling of her current cave at the Moonie Times to say on the Faux Propaganda Network:

She started with DEAN, with the will-it-STICK? hope, about his line at the Faux forum, about minority percentage in home state population (the Trent LOTT line)-----which she breathlessly reported was fed to him NOT by his OWN writers but by CARVILLE from the K-Street set, implying heavily that this was some sort of plagiarism.

She proceeded down the line of BIDEN's plagiarism, GORE's *SAYING* he invented the internet (he didn't SAY it), and on and on.

She said that "IT" started in the '60s. What is "IT"? She said that "IT" is defined as "CRITICIZING the president, which was NOT done before that, that LBJ was the first one to fall prey to the DEMOCRATS criticizing presidents." Oh, Repukes don't do this. She was probably alive when FDR was in office, so she should remember that he was villified in the extreme, up to and including a coup attempt.

Then she went right along to say this: "It comes down to, with the Dems, is there a point where you ask, 'Are you an AMERICAN'????"

1. Part of the plan
moving towards that one party system. It's what they want and I just hope the American people aren't stupid enough to buy their shit.

4. As Detestable as IMUS Is
he took the wind out of her sails at the end of her spiel by saying that he actually LIKES IT when people "cause trouble" by going against the grain. It's just his contrarian obnoxiousness talking.

But after she was gone he and his stooges speculated on whether INGRAHAM and COULTER would do a sex scene with each other. HAH! And he brought up (after she was gone of course) whether she had "found Jesus recently".

3. Is it considered
good manners to reply to the question of whether I'm a good American to say, "go to hell?" :)

5. They have had great success with this attack in the past.
It is, of course based on the 1930's claim that jews were not good Germans. How very republican.

However, I think they are making a mistake by reverting to this grotesquely evil Bushshit now. That is because, in the past when they all aped this shit, the approval ratings for Whistle Ass were very high, including among independents. Those approval ratings among independents are now falling steadily. Accusing those people of being bad Americans will not persuade them to change their minds. Rather, it will make them resent Whistle Ass and his vile minions.

At least I hope so.

6. Yup. They won't get away with in now IMO
Now that a much larger percentage of people have negative opinions of the Chimp and like hearing him criticized, this sort of talk will make them very uncomfortable...

8. Notice they use women to try and make their point.
I would love for some right-winger to come up to my face and make such an accusation. They may just learn all liberals are not necessarily pacifists

10. "It started in the 1960s?"... Right, the republicans NEVER criticized FDR
even during a time of war. :eyes: The criticisms, even in time of war, of presidents is an age old tradition in this country. Her assessment is just assinine.

12. Oh, indeed, NEVER criticise the President!
Why, it's just not done! He's PRESIDENT, for his sake, already! Chosen of GAWD! No matter what he does, (unless he's an evil Democrat with a taste for strange pussy) you must NEVER be critical of his policies...

Bull. Shit.

And then this Trotta woman (who I don't remember) has the gall to question MY patriotism?

These Neo-Cons need a civics lesson, don't they? first, the President works for US, not the other way around, and as any employer of people or parent will tell you, you occassionally have to jerk a knot in an errant child or employee.

And why would DEMOCRATS criticize LBJ? Did trotta forget which party "Mr. Greatsociety" belonged to?

Oh, but I digress, Mz. Trotta, to answer your question, Yes, I AM an American. The real question should be "Are YOU?"...

15. "don't remember this TROTTA woman" Here She Is
First woman to cover a war (Vietnam) on t.v. Oh, she covered McGOVERN--------no WONDER he lost, maybe she was the original Spice Girl (Sue SCHMIDT, Ceci CONNOLLY, and the other one shafting, uh, COVERING GORE). Am looking for a pic of her.

******QUOTE*****

....
The first female to cover a war for television, Trotta has had enough important journalistic currents flowing through her reportorial life to keep one of those public television media panels going for months. It was her good fortune to be assigned to some of the biggest stories of recent years -- the Kennedy assassination, Vietnam, the Yom Kuppur War, Chappaquiddick, the McGovern campaign, the hostage crisis in Iran, the von Bulow trial, the invasion of Grenada. Her misfortune was to almost always be the wrong person in the wrong place at the wrong time. ....

Trotta acknowledges that she clashed frequently with producers and that executives often had to intervene. ....

Still, Trotta's anger sometimes gives the book a vengeful, even vicious edge. She ridicules her tormentors' looks, wardrobes, and characters, calling one executive she disliked "ferretlike." In her view, few of those who disagree with her do so for any but the crassest and most venal of reasons. Self-criticism is grudging, self-awareness occasional.

Furious at the new generation of managers responsible for ousting her and hundreds of others from CBS and the other networks' news divisions, she skims over the forces that brought them to power and unraveled the proud traditions of network news. ....

13.  Rep. Bob McDermott and the Dixie Chix on the "eve" of war.
Next the military had to "shut up" during the war. Now, no criticism whatsoever from anyone will be tolerated.

14. ...Then They Came For Me
http://www.janrainwater.com/htdocs/Rohde.htm

Then They Came for Me

by

Stephen F. Rohde, Esq.

First they came for the Muslims, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Muslim.

Then they came to detain immigrants indefinitely solely upon the certification of the Attorney General, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't an immigrant.

Then they came to eavesdrop on suspects consulting with their attorneys, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a suspect.

Then they came to prosecute non-citizens before secret military commissions, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a non-citizen.

Then they came to enter homes and offices for unannounced "sneak and peek" searches, and I didn't speak up because I had nothing to hide.

Then they came to reinstate Cointelpro and resume the infiltration and surveillance of domestic religious and political groups, and I didn't speak up because I had stopped participating in any groups.

Then they came for anyone who objected to government policy because it aided the terrorists and gave ammunition to America's enemies, and I didn't speak up because...... I didn't speak up.

Then they came for me....... and by that time no one was left to speak up.

Stephen Rohde, a constitutional lawyer and President of the ACLU of Southern California, is indebted to the inspiration of Rev. Martin Niemoller (1937).

17. I concur with your diagnosis, Dr. UTUSN
Here's another "symptom":
What makes the Bush-haters so mad? First, it was how he got the job...

By CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER
"...something is going on...the unhinging of the Democratic Party. Democrats are seized with a loathing for President Bush — a contempt and disdain giving way to a hatred that is near pathological — unlike any since they had Richard Nixon to kick around..."
