A Pope & Presidents: we display, you decide...(photos)

Frankly, I think the koala got a better response than the bush.
What do you think?

I forgot the saddest one. This was taken at the Pope's public audience, the day after GWB had Karla Faye Tucker executed. The Pope had directly appealed to * for clemency.

(Edited to add 2 Repubs whom I left out, as well as the last photo.)

1. Wow -- great pics
After so many wonderful ones, that first picture of the Chimp is a real shocker. "Which of these does not belong with the others" kinda thing...

3. Considering reports that he thought Bush might be the Antichrist
and the fact that a Koala is a marsupial mammal that eats bushes and leaves, he should have taken the koala to his meeting with Bush.

Yep. A lot of people think Bush is the antichrist. I wonder myself sometimes.

16. I wish there was a reliable internet source for this.
The only thing I've seen was very "hearsay-ish". The Pope appears to be lecturing Shrub in one photo.

The last one, from the late 1990's, really reflects his pain and fatigue, especially after Dumbya executed Karla Faye Tucker.

"Culture of Life" - my ass! I keep hearing one of Rachel Maddow's associates saying this instead of "Mandate my Ass" I'm embarrassed. I can't rememeber everyone who was on Unfiltered.

4. The Koala would make a better leader than Bush
. . . and has just as much right to call himself President of the United States.

One eats shoots and leaves and the other eats, shoots, and leaves. :silly:

5. What I think
is that in the photos of him with Bush he (Pope) looks like a parent trying to get through a child. The others of him with Carter and Clinton he looks like he's enjoying himself. :) I liked the last one. Very cute.

14. Amazing how a man in supposed good health can look like
a babbling fool next to a man suffering from multiple illnesses.

15. I notice....
...he looks the most unhappy in pictures where he is standing next to a Bush. Both the current one and his father is where he looks like he's scowling. He even looks happier with Reagan than with the two Bushes.

17. In the interest of fair disclosure, those were taken in 1997..
the ones with Poppy, I mean, so the Pope was in worse health.
But, there are still many pictures of him with other people smiling after that time.

21. Wonderful montage....
The Pope looks truly happy when with Pres. Carter ... and ,agreeing with everyone, he looks comfortable with every one except the Bush clan.

Thank you for the picts.

22. I think it all becomes apparent...
Edited on Sat Apr-02-05 10:41 AM by VelmaD
when you look at the other people in the pictures. They all look genuinely happy to meet the Pope. In many of the photos they look like they're having a conversation...making some sort of connection as people or at least they're trying to.

Shrub has that same fake maniacal grin on his face that makes everyone want to vomit and he isn't even making eye contact when the Pope is talking to him. If he won't listen to a head of State and respected religious leader...goodness knows we have no hope of him ever listening to us.

23. Body language is everything
Edited on Sat Apr-02-05 10:44 AM by Horse with no Name
If you notice, Clinton, Carter, and Reagan---in all pictures--seem to be leaning into the Pope during conversation--showing a reverence to His Holiness.
The only time Bush Sr. does it is while shaking hands and Junior doesn't do it at all--he is leaning into him from the side instead of looking at him from face to face. What an embarrassment.
What a wonderful montage.

On edit: Junior just looks like a Saturday Night Live skit. Leader of the free world...pfffttt...

24. I found a few photos of him with Fidel Castro where they..
looked more at ease with each other, despite the fact that the Pope made several comments to Castro as he sat in the front row of a Mass abt treatment of political prisoners etc.

Poppy never seems at ease with other people in pictures IMO.
Junior looks like he's taking the goofy grin approach to avoid getting a lecture.

pfffftttt indeed!
