What have I become?
Impeachment is not enough for me. I want to see him force fed if necessary to keep his sorry ass alive as long as possible. I want to see misery replace that smirk. This coming from a person who tries to make someones day at every encounter. Sometimes I feel so hopeless so helpless.

Edited on Sat Apr-02-05 01:59 PM by TheWatcher
Heavy Metal when Hanover Fist is testifying against Captain Sternn.

If you've ever seen that film and you know which scene I am talking about, I think that about sums up my sentiments about the Boy King. :)

2. You are not alone.
I abhor this feeling I have for them. I am sick and tired of working on campaigns to defeat amendments, initiatives about things that this evil group spawn, things that should NEVER come to the fore. I am with you. I want to be able to send them letters in prison every day with cheery things about how wonderful life is with them in the slammer. I want to be cruel and I have never, ever wanted anything remotely like that in my whole life and it sickens me to know that I am capable of it. I am sick of trying to fight this within myself. I never thought this possible and it feels really bad.

6. Well, I can't go quite that far
I had a real bad feeling going for Nixon, Reagan and Daddy Bush but then it was nothing like this. It is bad for us to feel this way but I just can't seem to fight it. I have switched over to an all Mexican music station so I don't hear any news, everytime I hear even a moment of Bozos voice I feel my pressure going up. So, I avoid it as much as possible.

41. Oh do believe this
I am not buried in the sand, oh no. I just choose not to listen to corporate owned media. I am out on the streets working locally every day since the middle of February. I was just expressing my way of avoiding the stuff that gets me the most depressed. I get my news on the net, especially here, every day off and on all day. It is depressing enough to share it with like minded folks. I will no longer listen to anything that has ever uttered the words "our beloved president" when refering to this dimson.

Battle? You betcha, every single day.

although I do think a stretch in Leavenworth is required. I know the lesson of the Nixon years and the Reagan years is that if we don't throw them into prison, they'll just keep coming back again and again.

They murdered our leaders. It's time to jail theirs.

8. I understand those feelings
I can't watch television news anymore. Prior to the last election, I was glued to the news (though always suspicious and skeptical of what it chose to show).

I can't do it anymore.

The other night, the hubby turned it on and I had to leave the room. I get beyond angry. I have such a feeling of helpless frustration and anger. It's frightening.

I'm home from work with a creaky back so I rented "Outfoxed" which I hadn't yet seen. Watched it and got angry and depressed all over again.

It's the feeling of not being able to change things that makes me so angry. The feeling of impotence. It feels like it's almost senseless to try - nobody listens. I know that's a defeatist attitude but it's hard not feel that way after 2004.

Yeah, I understand. :nuke:

10. Considering the extremes some of the Repugs have forced
upon this country, I think your feelings are only natural. As Nietzsche said: "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." And: "And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."

He also said "Extreme positions are not succeeded by moderate ones, but by contrary extreme positions." The pendulum tends to swing from one extreme to the other. Even though I am far from a Moderate, even I understand that Extreme Leftism can be just as dangerous as the Extreme Right.

These are all things we must try our best to guard against, no matter how difficult it may be or how much we may wish for some kind of vengeful "justice".

I still believe our best hope is education of the voters. The PIPA report released prior to the 2004 Election showed that most people actually agreed with the Democratic positions, but simply didn't know the Truth.

The problem has been that so many of Repug supporters simply refused to listen! They have become ditto-heads. How do you educate someone who won't listen in the first place?

Fortunately, I think many of them are beginning to have their eyes opened by the actions of the Extremists themselves. The SS "reform" debate, the way they are mistreating our soldiers and veterans, the growing deficit, and their actions in the Schiavo tragedy (whether you agree with the outcome or not, the whole situation was a tragedy for her husband and her family). We shouldn't use TS as a political tool, but that's exactly what the Repugs did and we should call them on it. We should focus on DeLay's Ethics violations and the way he tried to use TS's family tragedy to deflect attention away from the investigation.

I honestly believe that more and more Repug supporters are taking a hard look at what they are supporting, and we have a growing opportunity to educate them.

And I believe we should start working on the local level as well as the National level.

29. excellent post
I'm bookmarking it. :hi:

I've mostly stepped away from DU, because it does get me obsessed in ways that I can't use positively. I get too angry knowing the truth and seeing it ignored or subverted all around me.

Instead I am learning banjo, and focusing on my Buddhist practice in terms of challenging my own problems by bringing out the Buddha qualities of Courage, Compassion, Wisdom and Life Force in my own life, and helping to support other people do the same. Fight the negativity and destruction by trying best I can to foster circles of positive growth and affirmations (through action) of my own and other's dignity, seems like the right action, for me. If there were a progressive political group in my area, I'd do that too, but there isn't.

Buddhism teaches we are one, our existence interdependent on all others; therefore we should consider gratitude for our own and other's lives, even those who harm us, since those who are our "enemies" offer the greatest chance for us to strengthen ourselves and use the negative to create something of value. This is not easy when you're fighting urges to slap the shit out of people who are so deluded you can't even believe you're a member of the same species!!!!!

I did not get too far with my fiddle, and guitar does not appeal to me.
However, I cannot believe there is not a progressive political group in your area.
I appreciate the Buddhism, but it is hard to be as grateful for Bush and Greenspan as I am for EF Schumacher and Paul Krugman.

Although I've never actually studied under a Taoist Sage, I've just been inspired by Taoist writings. I've also gotten great inspiration from many Buddhist writings. I've found the two philosophies very similar and even reference each other quite often.

11. running on empty
we all need to feed our spirits from time to time to simply survive.
Or else we run out of 'fuel'. By this I just mean doing things that we really love, like music gardening, hiking etc.
I am saying this simply from my own experience. I have been playing a lot more music lately and I'm feeling healthier for it. We need joy and inspiration to survive. Inspiration is fuel, I have to remember to put aside some time for it.

16. I think it's important to try not to succumb to that
although I understand your frustration. We need a government that replaces Bush to be better than what we have now. If we harbor such intense animosity, it is destructive to us personally. And when we do gain power we're likely to proceed from that hatred. I'm all for taking on any strategy necessary to defeat the Republicans, but I believe it important to distinguish expedient strategy from personal animosity that ultimately can only be destructive.

these are birth pains.

A new age is coming and those who will not prosper from peace are fighting like Hell to stop it.

But as any mother knows, you can't stop a birth when it's time.

We must hang on and sustain ourselves and each other with hope and a commitment to peace.

30. This feeling sucks...
I'm tired of being angry, tired of being on the losing end of everything when I know we should have won, tired of being sick and tired. There's just too damn much to worry about these days. And I'm tired of it all. Tired of sitting here googling news and checking blogs every spare minute. Tired of feeling my ass grow wider with each passing minute I sit here. Tired of apathetic people looking at me shocked and saying, "No.... REALLY?" Tired of wanting to grab every Repug-looking person I see and rattle them silly (btw, I'm convinced I know who they are just by the way they look). Tired of explaining to my 4yo that Kerry is not going to win.

But I have to believe through all the gloom and doom, all the bitterness, all the dark days, that there is enough goodness and enough fight left in us to give hope to what's left of America. That's what I come here for. Hope. And you, my comrades-in-arms, give me that.

BUT... P.S. the force-feeding must come ONLY after he's impeached, loses everything, then has a long, extended, catastrophic illness while he tries unsuccessfully to support himself and his family only on Social Security and his wife's night job at a local diner, then tries to pay for his medical bills with Medicaid only, but can't, tries to file bankruptcy, but can't, and ultimately loses his home to Saudi creditors, just in time for the subpoena from the International War Crimes tribunal to come knocking. Last but not least, all of it is covered 24/7 by the CNN, MSNBC and FOX and streamed into our homes. How's that for obsessed?

My last paragraph was an attempt at sarcasm, but I guess it gets lost in blog translation.

35. I'm 'there' too,,,,,
I don't know that I have ever been this angry for such a long time,,,, I am disgusted AND incredulous that half this country cannot or will not see what is happening,,,,

I have disengaged from the Corporate Media, I have made a dozen quilts while watching HGTV,,,, but all it takes for me is to see ones of those ASSHOLES lying again ~ a 30 second sound bite and my anger surges to the forefront.

I am truly worried for my Kids & my GrandKids,,,,, I am worried for the poor and the sick and the homeless and the elderly and the environment.

I disagree with the statements around obsession,,,, This destruction of our Country is happening here and now !!! Ignoring it, does not make it go away!!! This Country is enabling those who are addicted to Power.

A side note: When I was taught about Germany/Hitler/Nazi's in High School,,,, I used to think "How stupid & lazy Germany's citizens must have been ~ How could they let something like that happen??"
well,,,,, now I know.

I cannot think of a punishment severe enough to fit their crimes,,,,

I hear that some people put themselves to sleep by daydreaming about romance (or sex), or about becoming rich and famous.

Not me.

I drowse off while daydreaming about Bush and all his minions being publicly exposed and impeached for high treason and then tried and sentenced by the rest of the world for war crimes. My "fantasy life" has pretty much been taken over by this desire to see them all be exposed and severely punished for what they have done.
