1. It's only right...
....that the President of the United States would attend the funeral of one who impacted the music world as much as Johnny Cash.

7. The Real, Legally-Elected President Was At The Funeral
The imposter was elsewhere.......

I wish I could have been there. Johnny Cash was a hell of a man, and he'll be missed.

6. cash was a lifelong liberal
as is willie nelson
and merle haggard's converted

real country music speaks for the downtrodden and draws from the work of artists like woodie guthrie.

and it has lyrics a bit deeper than a 'bin laden'/'forgotten' rhyme

9. while i'm at it
i'll post this:

Man In Black
by Johnny Cash
Recorded February 16, 1971

Well, you wonder why I always dress in black,
Why you never see bright colors on my back,
And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone.
Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on.

I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down,
Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town,
I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime,
But is there because he's a victim of the times.

I wear the black for those who never read,
Or listened to the words that Jesus said,
About the road to happiness through love and charity,
Why, you'd think He's talking straight to you and me.

Well, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose,
In our streak of lightnin' cars and fancy clothes,
But just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back,
Up front there ought 'a be a Man In Black.

I wear it for the sick and lonely old,
For the reckless ones whose bad trip left them cold,
I wear the black in mournin' for the lives that could have been,
Each week we lose a hundred fine young men.

And, I wear it for the thousands who have died,
Believen' that the Lord was on their side,
I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died,
Believen' that we all were on their side.

Well, there's things that never will be right I know,
And things need changin' everywhere you go,
But 'til we start to make a move to make a few things right,
You'll never see me wear a suit of white.

Ah, I'd love to wear a rainbow every day,
And tell the world that everything's OK,
But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back,
'Till things are brighter, I'm the Man In Black.

18. mib was played on democracy now this morning
I'd forgotten most of the words over the years.
Hearing it made me well up with tears.

Johnny Cash was without question one of the good ones.
He always stood up for the little man.

God bless Johnny Cash. He will be missed.

16. oooh yeah!
I remember the Dylan tribute show in 1992, and now, let's stop and think: what is Dylan known for? Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe he's known for being kinda a protest singer or something of that ilk (damn my brain, don't fail me now!) but ya know what I'm saying, right? Now, anyone remember Sinead O'Connor being all-but booed off stage? And the ONLY person who had the BALLS to come out to stand up for her was...
Kris Kristofferson!!!!!!!!! "Don't let the BASTARDS get you down." Indeed.

20. i remember that like it was yesterday
Sinead was booed for having the balls to protest something/someone at a tribute to a protest singer. God, the irony. I felt so sorry for those poor slobs in the audience who were booing. They didn't have a clue.

It made me a life-long Sinead fan and reinforeced my good feelings about kris kristoferson. People can be so blind.

17. Kid Rock's also a country music star now
With Sheryl Crow (who's claimed before that several of her "rock" songs are actually country) he recorded Picture. Of course, the radio stations around here and the video stations all have to censor the song while it plays because it mentions "Cocaine". :puke:

Johnny Cash is an icon of my childhood and his last album I believe should be considered a national treasure. His last set of videos as well are incredibly moving.

I hope Jesus enjoys the newest addition to the Heavenly Choir.

19. Johnny Cash
was one of those rare men who transcended musical style, generation, class and ethnic background. Truly a man of the people.
